Night acts as a hiding place for the shadow.
Shadow is a version of you that isnt actually
you but just your outline with darkness in it.
Cutting with dull knife is painful, him setting into the night is that he wants it to not exist anymore, night will act as a hiding place for the darkness.
But you can never really get past your own darkness. only it takes is some light (any event that triggers it again) for it to reappear.
