some people genuinely can't help themselves lmbo I wonder what the fallout will be from this. apparently it was ~200 people but already know the next media cycle will be about "Mamdani's base turning against him"

Never thought the critique of him for caving would break containment from online spaces but I’m glad it did. Nigga been folding since he got in office

This fool really attended an Oct.7 vigil

He would’ve never done this a year ago

He attended the exact same vigil a year ago before he was elected mayor:

It's breaking online containment but it's only leading to ridicule. 3 billion political figures in the country but ZOHRAN MAMDANI is the one getting protested with chants charging him with genocide/calling him a child killer?

Why did the mayor of new york have to go to an israeli event? I understand he can feel bad for the people who passed on that day but showing up to this was suicide for his optics

  • I dont think hes a zionist obviously im not that mentally gone but was he signed by contract to attend this

I stand corrected and to be clear I don’t agree with the chants calling him a genocidaire. But i understand where the frustration comes from. He’s done nothing materially for the anti-Zionism/pro-Palestine movement since taking office.

Glad we’re admonishing anti-Zionism because we have a parasocial relationship to the guy 👍🏽

NYC is like the second biggest epicenter of Zionism in the US

There is no socialist entity in New York to back him standing on anti-Zionist policy . There’s no big union or working class party that is both

    • willing to exercise leverage in alignment with his interests
    • large enough to possess leverage

Mamdani is a good poster boy for the narrative image of socialism but nothing beyond that. Working class politics mean working class class people, not elected officials

I guess my thing is like "oh he's going to get negative press if he doesn't attend this stuff" and I'm like... he already gets negative press anyways no matter what he does so why even try to appease everybody?

this is not me trying to understate the difficulties of his position but he already is a controversial figure in politics. standing on his beliefs and the beliefs of the party that backs him makes more sense to me.

The DSA doesn’t hold any sway in NYC politics beyond getting people out to vote. He’s playing ball with zionists and cops and billionaires

Dude will not get s*** done without their rubber stamp

I mean yea fair enough, I acknowledge that.

people should continue to pushback on Mamdani whenever he does something that isn't in alignment because that's what we're supposed to do.

People should stop wasting their time with complaining to him and work on organizing labor and the working class in New York so they can emplace actual leverage behind those demands

What puzzles me is that he hasn’t tried to mobilize people after getting elected. He’s extremely popular and could do what you said but only seems to care for activating folks when it’s time to vote and nothing more. He won’t fire Tisch because he knows NYPD will mobilize against him but he’s not doing anything to counter that

He’s a former assemblyman endorsed by the DSA to be mayor, you’re asking for something totally outside of his scope as a politician.

He lacks intimate ties with labor and he plays within the stream of institutional politics

Once again, great poster boy for what a socialist can do in civic politics. NOT a mobilizer of the working class

He should do something for sure. There was a protest last time against a sale but I don’t know if he said anything

AOC smeared the protestors as antisemetic and acted like they were protesting outside a synagogue for no reason, even tho mfs were inside cutting land sale deals

I don't think you're shaming them but you are saying their time could be better utilized which, yea probably but also maybe they are doing both. MAYBE!

don't get me wrong, im sure there are folks out there just protesting to protest without doing any material work but for some reason I find that to be the minority.

These protests are inconsequential without the material leverage that they remain secondary to

I get it, I don't disagree but I guess I also see the protests as not simply just something to do to gain leverage. sometimes it is to just show that something is not being accepted or approved of.
