The diet didn't put him in a depression, his wife being terminally ill with cancer did and he was prescribed anti depressants that he was later hooked on. You're intentionally making it seem like the meat only diet is the reason. Also both him and his daughter commit to the diet because they were having severe health problems, especially the daughter. She was very close to being immobilized before the diet.
