You're confusing af
Because you said you don't know why Rick Ross would call himself an artist but he could if he wants to, then you said he just talks over beats. Now it's "That doesn't mean he's not an artist"
If rap is art, he should be able to call himself an artist
I’m saying he doesn’t seem like a dude who thinks in those terms, & the past generation sees no stigma with the term rapper cause it means something else to them, a dude like Wayne for example, but he has every right to call himself an artist cause he his, my main point is I absolutely understand people not liking the word it’s subtly weaponized, in a dismissive & negative way imo
True but then she had songs like “Say Aha” , “I’m A Lady” “LES Artistes”, and the original “You’ll Find A Way” which all felt post punk / new wave. Either way you cut it she wasn’t R&B

I see what you mean. I think this goes back to what @provider was talking about with labels making things simple because imagine if Paramore made a funk album. It would be to label that differently.
I’m not gonna lie I disagree with your take about Ye being bigger than MJ / Prince but the dude you’re debating is kinda downplaying Ye’s impact too with the US / Canada s***.
Was deff in Tokyo last year and seen hella locals wearing Ye’s s*** and dressing like him there too
Ye’s popularity is also decreased because of how controversial his actions are. I know it’s a “what if” but i think it’s a factor
I was going to be obtuse just for the hell of it but remembered that “hip pop” has always been a thing
It’s hard to compare Kanye to MJ / Prince cuz of the eras Kanye been through.
MJ and Prince were big in the era where music relied on s*** like word of mouth and radio play.
Kanye came out in 2004 but was really a pop star imo around 2007 when the industry was already drastically different from Prince and MJ heyday and niggas wasn’t buying albums as much
Hey, I do a livestream on Wednesdays sometimes. Would you be down to hop in a livestream tomorrow?
Damn I work tomorrow bro 😭 what u was trying to discuss

My bad, I misunderstood you
And I agree with your main point
MJ and Prince's fashion influence is global and Yeezy is popular over in America and maybe Canada. In your scope Ye might look bigger but he doesn't have outfits like Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Purple Rain, Bad
If we're really talking about doing music and fashion together MJ, Prince, Beyonce have combined them better than he did. If you want to bring up only brands and designers Kanye and his team at Yeezy haven't even touched people like Tinker or Virgil if you want to see real cultural staples.
MJ and Prince have heavy influence on the fashion industry but kanye has that same influence, started trends and changed the landscape of the industry (along with Virgil) while also having his own brand, collections and runway shows.
Asap rocky ruined that s***
Bro can’t focus for s***
His track listing are always lacking

In Tokyo at the height of Covid?
Damn I work tomorrow bro 😭 what u was trying to discuss
We livestream at night if that works but you’re just a interesting Nigga. Wanna throw u on for a bit
I never said he was bigger than MJ/Prince. I said hes more artistic and accomplished more in the arts than they did. Because he did music and fashion design at a high level.
Oh my mistake bro
Yea this is where it gets tricky cuz MJ actually wanted to get into more fields but he was already going through mad s*** at the time.
I remember he was attached to a number of movies and s*** but those never materialized.
Yea Ye deff been in more fields than MJ
My bad, I misunderstood you
And I agree with your main point
Nah we’re good ☠️ I didn’t mean to come off dismissive my second point is my main point really
Oh my mistake bro

Thank you bruh that’s all I’m saying. They acting like I’m crazy
In Tokyo at the height of Covid?
Japan and korea have a big hypebeast culture so it’s no surprise how popular ye is overseas. I honestly think they care more about ye wears more over there than over here in America
The real question is if pop singers are saying “I’m more than a pop singer, I’m an artist” why is it ok for them and not for rappers?
Ye’s popularity is also decreased because of how controversial his actions are. I know it’s a “what if” but i think it’s a factor
The 1,2 punch combo of 808s being divisive plus the Taylor incident deff made Kanye public enemy #1 for a while. Then he became a villain again after his comeback Lmao smh
Wearing some s*** during a performance that your stylist chose and making it iconic ain’t the same s*** as designing your own clothes/sneaker brand and making it a cultural staple. But you knew that
correct me if I'm wrong but the shoes ye known for are roshe inspired right?
also where is the proof he actaully designed anything that everyone wears today
like karl lagerfeld (him not a team under him) designed the iconic chanel logo (double Cs) and made it the brand it is today amongst other things
ye hasnt done anything in that stature when it comes to fashion
were are the fashion pieces he designed that aren't being hyped up by hypebeast but can actually stand alongside iconic pieces from other brands
besides that shoe design that again heavily resembles the nike roshe shoe....idk
mods y’all can’t keep letting him do this
How can you be mad at Travis calling himself an artist when you all call him pop and say he can’t rap?
correct me if I'm wrong but the shoes ye known for are roshe inspired right?

All his early shoes from lv to like the first few yeezy adidas he was a major part in designing them.
And who cares if they’re roshe inspired that doesn’t mean anything? 350s still in style and roshes aren’t
In Tokyo at the height of Covid?
I was in Tokyo RIGHT when Covid started popping off. Like it was January 2020 and we had started getting the news but we ain’t know how serious it was.
But the thing about Japan is that a few of the locals wear masks over there anyway idk if it’s cuz they’re really germophobes or if it’s cuz of the aesthetic
they are as much as an artist as you are a s*** poster
The 1,2 punch combo of 808s being divisive plus the Taylor incident deff made Kanye public enemy #1 for a while. Then he became a villain again after his comeback Lmao smh
Yeah i think that just makes it that much more impressive how big his impact has been

Kanye had blogs and iTunes and is a rapper
2 cultural differences that makes it hard to compare with older artists
