I love how people like 2 Words like to downplay how organic of a smash hit this was even outside the diss.

This diss was HANDS DOWN the rap song of the summer and the year as a whole, getting played at parties, radio, cookouts, functions, whips, festivals, different cultures of people, different age groups, etc.

Ain't no way the song is doing these numbers cause of Drake especially when Drake dropped more songs than Kendrick this year and none of them popped like NLU. Nigga tried hard to have the song of the summer and fumbled it yet Kendrick needs Drake for a hit.

That's not even factoring in how Kendrick's previous albums are still doing major numbers and GKMC is still one of the best selling albums of this decade despite dropping in 2012.

No one is downplaying anything, people are just telling the truth regarding the beef stimmy. It gave it a massive boost and nobody can deny that.

''Drake tried hard to have song of the summer and fumbled it''.. Erm.... Mind telling which songs you are referring to? Because nobody but you can answer that question, not even Drake. He didn't try anything considering the artists he gave features to and the fact that he hasn't done any promo for any of it.

''Kendrick's previous albums are still doing major numbers'' - this is false. He only got 2 albums on the BB 200 chart and they are just doing small numbers - but that's also decent considering how old they are. But that's just not major numbers. His recent album, Morale, isn't even charting despite just being 2 years old. Drake got 6 albums charting and one of them is the so-called flop CLB, which dropped months before Morale.

Family Matters was clearly a hit attempt.

Drake himself kept promising "summer vibes" right after the beef which implies that he was trying to get a summer hit even if it was a feature.

And GKMC is def one of the best selling albums of the 2020's broski. There's clear data on that.

3 beat switches and almost 8 minutes long song is a hit attempt? That goes against every rule of creating a hit song and one of the biggest hitmakers of all time knows those rules better than anyone else.

You said he tried hard to have a summer hit but I don't see any attempt at that. Which of the songs he released after the ''summer vibes'' post were him trying the hardest to have a summer hit?
