how is that a standard and not an exception
then don’t try and put that visionary label on them
if you’re not at least trying to be up there with ye and kendrick then i don’t wanna hear none of that visionary s***. sorry but if yall call some of these artists that then im expecting that
There’s a difference between artists pushing themselves to be on that level and me as an audience member actually expecting them to hit that lol
MIKE and Niontay have absolutely performed near you and the other ones are quite literally starting their careers
Unless he can use the artists as some form of social proof to cover up his lack of a personality they don’t count
Unless he can use the artists as some form of social proof to cover up his lack of a personality they don’t count
It’s funny watching them realize they can’t dictate culture from their bumfuck town in real time

Like how you get missed haha
The question though is not that there's 'breakout stars' is that who of these breakout stars
debuted after 2020
can sell 100K
Pholks EP from Leon isn't doing it
Olivia Dean just did 43K
Sombr's joint did 31K first week
Sabrina carpenter debut was in 2015
You are making my point. Most of these stars right now are not really all that commercially viable with the exception being those that came before 2020, when the masses were introduced to them via mass conditioning and monoculture.
No one's buying these new acts albums.
If you wanna make the point that there are more artists from other genres on the charts than Hip-Hop acts then sure, I suppose but it's not really all that relevant because no one's moving units except older established acts, no one is selling concert tickets except for older established acts.
You're stuck on an arbitrary 100K album sale number in a thread about the top 40 hits. Breakout star usually means you have breakout hits that then could formulate into album success later on. Even in Sabrina's case she still only had her breakout moment in the last few years and is only 26
The genres and younger acts are still there. They still have hits. There's one clear gene who's been a mainstay for 35 years that isn't.
Freight is asking where the young visionaries are and then gets mad when these young visionaries haven’t toured yet
Unless he can use the artists as some form of social proof to cover up his lack of a personality they don’t count
"form of social proof" I'm sorry that I like to experience the music I listen to outside of the confines of my own bedroom. That seems to be the disconnect here.

You're right, my city is on that list. That's on me. The show didn't show up on bandsintown for any of them.
I see a lot of people making this trend about the state of popular music in general. If music = hip hop to them, that makes sense; if the only genre they care about is struggling, then music in general must be struggling.
But the reality is just that a lot of the hip hop being pushed into the mainstream by labels these days is mediocre af and nobody wants to hear it. That's why the genre is falling off commercially. Nobody is investing in A&R and nobody has the ambition to be #1 anymore because it doesn't benefit them to do so. It's more lucrative in the short term to be like everyone else.
if yall wanna see change in rap then we need to start making artists have the athlete mentality
take timothy chalamet for example, mf went on the early this year he said he wants to be one of the greatest of all time and pushes that athlete mentality for every role he takes. that is what the game is missing man. we need to start pushing that mentality to these “young artsy visionaries” if we expect rap to come back

That’s not an athlete mentality lol that’s just ego. That ego came with a decade of experience

u have ppl like doechii and mink who do that most artsy young visionaries aren’t trying to compromise their art and shouldn’t jsut to appeal to dif audiences many of these guys do wanna be the best! Mink has said this!

29/30 is young for a leading actor. You're not even in your prime popularity usually at that point. If he won the oscar last year he would have been the youngest man ever to do it
Granted he has years behind him but you can argue he's been gunning for it since he was 21/22

For sure I’m just saying he’s not a brand new actor with that mentality, he’s been putting in the work for quite awhile

well ego is a gift and a curse, y’all want another prime ye or j. cole

fair, but don’t (not you) be putting the visionary label on anybody until they earned it
well ego is a gift and a curse, y’all want another prime ye or j. cole
Prime Ye took ten years of work between his start as a producer and late registration (beating sophomore slump)
Once again, didn’t come out of nowhere.
