What is the solution then? I'm willing to understand you. Should we remove all laws then and close all jails? Release all the serial killers right now? Should I be punished if I go to my neighbours house and rape his wife, kill his kids and steal his s***?

I agree that what the prison system has been turned into is trash. Doesn’t mean it’s COMPLETELY useless or not a good concept in itself. I believe when people do something incredibly morally wrong (like rape, murder, etc.), they should face consequences like prison.

Into the philosophy OP is getting at of “who are we to decide what’s right/wrong?” Well OP do you want to live in a society that doesn’t at least have the mere appearance of being moral (albeit that a lot of the people giving off this appearance happen to be doing some of the worst things)? If there is a God, I assure you he isn’t going to come down and tell us what’s good, at least not directly, so in a lot of ways, that IS actually for us to decide.

Also, if I am going to use logic: “What this system has turned into doesn’t work any more, so I am going to abandon it” then I’m probably out on the entire governmental system as a whole. But we all know the government is trash though.

The problem we face with a lot of the systems created in this world is that we don’t UPDATE them when experience and knowledge are gained. A lot of times, this is due to the people in control figuring out ways to benefit from these systems, providing them with a reason to see to it that those systems are NEVER changed.

This is a covert way of saying white people have ran the world for thousands of years. That’s not the case. Jails have existed in every culture before Rome, Greece, 1492 and today.

theres multiple serial killers saying it was good that they got caught because otherwise they wouldve killed more. jailtime stops repeat offenders, or at least slows them donw. SOME people know murder is illegal and still murder, but there are definitely sickos who get scared by the fact that they will throw their life away if caught. If there were no consequences, then why not simply do it?
