Everyone overplays nirvana when they discover them, then never listen to them consistently ever again

I actually finally binge listened them in 2017 and it was great. Mostly because it got me into Soundgarden/Alice in Chains which I liked way better.

I love AIC but I'm not a huge Soundgarden fan. Chris Cornell had a hell of a voice though.

I disagree about Nirvana. Maybe because they were the first band I ever loved but I still listen to them regularly today. Once you go through the discography they have so many rarities and live shows to keep you going

Soundgarden May be the only band I didn’t really care for from that era. I went through their whole discography. Chris is great but I loved AIC a lot more

A lot of music / art is entry level for a reason

I ended up falling out of rock in general eventually after a full 2017 binge of alternative then 80s pop stuff.

Best part of the whole thing I discovered The Talking Heads who are my favorite artists of all time period.

If I do listen to any grunge it's usually during spring time or beginning of summer.

why would you do that !

You can respect KC's ability to make songs that connect with people even with simple lyrics and not even crazy technical skills

First time I gave Nirvana a listen after years of knowing them I couldn't stop replaying their hits

The melodies, production sound, voice were all made to be super catchy and hook you

    real parallels to 2010s rap

i hope one day i will like them as much as yall i

i think theyre pretty good, but the songwriting, melodies and riffs just dont stand out for me as a whole outside a few songs. the instrumentation is okay but sounds so pedestrian to me, i like his vocals though. small discography too, and i think the unplugged s*** is super overrated. but they do have a couple amazing songs though imo: teen spirit, heart shaped box, all apologies. I guess they are kind of "essential" listening though just because of the popularity and the fact that they represent the era well.

an artist being entry level isnt a bad thing at all, that just means they are popular and good, even if they arent the absolute best

exactly. Kubrick is entry level for anybody who takes movies 'seriously'. Doesn't mean he's not one of the all time greats
