Im happy you played a link between worlds, that's an underrated gem that more people should play
I see where you're coming from, i also have friends who cant get into retro games. Im a big fan of the snes era so i can't relate lol, i have 40+ hours on the snes app
I can't rate 3d games against the 2d games tbh too difficult
Still my best gaming experience ever
Nothing really came close to the sheer splendor and awe of my first Ocarina play until Subnautica recently
tbh y'all need to play that and go in blind
Maybe the dungeons aren't as good but literal every other aspect is dramatically more enjoyable than SS for me
That's cool, agree to disagree
I wasnt even born when oot came out first time so i could only play that version on wii virtual console, but i still love to this day the n64 aesthetic even tho the game is graphically inferior to the 3ds version. And you're right about botw, i dont think there has been a game that gave me the a bigger feeling of adventure and exploration. I feel like every 3d zelda does something better than the others and that's what makes the series so amazing, besides arguably zelda II every game is unique and amazing on its own
Zelda 2 is a f***in banger
been hoping for them to bring more rpg elements back ever since

Yeah i dont use any criteria personally, i only use personal enjoyment. You'd probably call me crazy for putting a 2d gameboy game over Twilight princess but i replayed links awakening so many times and i have such an emotional attachment to it i feel like its better than it

I personally never enjoyed it lol, but its cool to see fans of the game. I would really like a link's awakening style remake of zelda II tho, maybe id appreciate it more that way

Nah Twilight Princess is a bit of a slog to me, enjoy several of the 2d games more

Someone who doesnt stan twilight princess, thats rare
I love it, but it definitely has its issues and people arent as willing to point out its issues as they do with other zelda games

Gargantuan quality dip between Wind Waker and BOTW imo.... the "magic" just isn't there for TP and SS. tbh I had almost given up on the (3d) series when BOTW came along and rejuvenated it to a degree I never could've imagined
suddenly Zelda is zeitgeist again. Big fan of the freedom to explore (without hand-holding) which is the root of the series and they had almost lost it.

I think all zelda games had that "zelda feel" to them, and that's part of the reason i love most of them. But with zelda botw, i kinda feel previous 3d zeldas have become outdated. Not in a bad way, they're all still awesome, but botw feels like the direction zelda had to make at some point to become its definitive version. I cant imagine going back to tp, oot and ss overworld when we now have huge open worlds with countless things to do. Botw is the epitome of "adventure" to me, i felt i was link exploring hyrule and i loved everything about it.
SS does get too hand holdy tho i agree, i hope with this remaster they remove unnecessary fi interactions and remove some signs that give you way too many hints on how to solve puzzles because the level design in SS imo is goated

The SS level design would be goated if it was a Metroid game but it felt claustrophobic as a Zelda game

I can see your point, it definitely takes a bit from metroid games, although i think oot, mm and tp started this trend of linear claustrophobic games in the series. I feel people kinda overrate the freedom you had in those games, you can explore hyrule filed in tp but there's nothing of worth besides a few heart pieces, rupees and bugs. Hyrule field felt more like a huge hub so the feeling of exploration was artificial. Same with oot. MM feels even more claustrophobic cause the game is smaller in scale. The areas themselves are very linear, with not many branching paths, and you couldn't access them whenever you wanted. SS feels claustrophobic cause the hub that gives you access to the three main areas is disconnected from the areas themselves, but conceptually its the same. Even when returning to the areas, they change so much that it never feels repetitive

Only someone that wasn't there at the time would call OOT linear
it is literally the game that blew 3d exploration wide open
Compared to BOTW 20 years later of course it seems constrained but trust me it wasn't. Have you played Subnautica? It's my mission to convince everyone to play it

When i first played it i was in awe too lol, but you cant go to death mountain, zora domain, gerudo valley whenever you wanted
And i remember disliking hyrule field cause while the theme was amazing, there was nothing you could find there
I remember looking at every corner trying to find heart pieces but there was nothing

Also i want to play subnautica for sure, looks like my type of game, but i have to clear my massive backlog first

There were secret holes all over the place in Hyrule field
Also the ghosts you had to get with horseback archery
so many mysterious elements to me when I was a kid

Is short and cheap and original and REALLY puts you on edge

They were all rupees tho lol, i had my wallet always full so id always be like this when finding them
I do remember fearing the ghosts tho, i never bothered with them until i tried to 100% the game, so that was cool

Yeah i saw someone play it for a bit before, really wanna try it
Wonder if Nintendo will just fully ignore the fact that today is Zelda's 35th anniversary or if they will at least make a tweet about it

They can't ignore their second most popular franchise's 35th anniversary right?????
HAPPY 35TH ANNIVERSARY TO THE GREATEST VIDEOGAME SERIES OF ALL TIME

Greatest franchise OAT
Only Zelda games I haven't played are Spirit Tracks, Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword cause I didn't have a DS or a Wii
But it's the only franchise out of which I'd put multiple games in my top 10 games OAT (WW, OOT, BOTW)

I'm definitely getting SS on the Switch, prob on a sale, so that's one off of the list.
Hopefully they give us TP as well soon.
And one day if they add DS games (even tho I think it's unlikely) to the Nintendo Online Service, I might even get to play all of them

The ds games are definitely hard to get, do you have a 3ds?
