im not gonna pretend like the nigga doesn’t have slaps but i find it a little crazy that this site of all places doesn’t like the dude when a vast majority of you niggas let Yeat slide on here, like that s*** will never make sense to me lol

i can only just assume that ian doing this rich suburban kid aesthetic reminds some of y’all that you’re white while for Yeat you could at least pretend you weren’t because of his “mystique” or whatever

”I like barter 6 but there’s Future/Thug/Carti type music and what we’re impressed with there and there’s the verses we thought were hard in the early / mid 2000’s and i think pretending that they are all the same level of quality/effort/skill is kinda how we got here.”

i actually started making a thread initially about this same exact issue and decided against it because this site is so steeped in that trap poptimist s*** that it would’ve just been a troll fest

I say still do it lol thats one of another huge factors in the climate rn

Him being upfront with the rich s*** would be better if the lyrics were closer to that lifestyle

Like dawg, it’s real artists out here that are 1000x better talent wise than ian: @hadjigaviota @Mitchell @AmoryBlain

hell f*** imposter syndrome nigga I def make better music than homie

None of us mentioned got the financial backing or team that ian got. And apparently neither do the other artists that ian’s manager has (like kayCyy) has it either.

@Slapfiendd you being hella disingenuous bro. Hella disingenuous.

Every rapper has to pay to get put on it’s literally how all this works if you don’t pay you don’t play

True, but to me “getting” recognition sounds like it came organically from a fanbase. That’s just me though

Idk man. I get both sides of the argument. On one hand this kid is cosplaying (I guess it’s just on the mic though? Looks like he dresses like a high school prep kid) and being something he’s not (idk where is bro even from?)

On the other hand the music does go hard. Not gonna put all my stock in this kid tho I can see him having a controversy

What people like @Veggie and @twinkletoez dont understand is all this s*** is funny til you at an artist mixer (was invited by this drummer i played keys for a gig at recently) in BROOKLYN and you hearing all these young niggas music (black, white, and hispanic) and literally all. Of. Them. Sound. Like. Yeat and Carti.

    BROOKLYN.

Sounding like rappers that either are or wanna be from Atlanta

I wish I was making this up.

    Couple reasons:
    1) Yeat was the first white rapper to do it in this way (excluding matt ox), so people thought he was unique. It was a new gimmick at the time.
    2) Yeat had mysterious aura with the weird turban aesthetics, slang etcetera.
    3) Even though he had a lot of cringe ass tough guy bars, the d***gie bars came off authentic because he was obviously an addict lol
    4) Like you said, he had the decency to hide his face a lot at first. This made it less egregious.
    5) Personal opinion but: his sound was way more interesting at the time then whatever this IAN guy is doing.

Im talm bout how a whole new gen of niggas of all different races that grew up in a region sound like someone from a place none of them grew up in to create the same type of music that wont even be remembered past TikTok

And bro brings up one of hip hop’s biggest hits to compare

I’m pissed that ppl don’t sound original.

Literally same flow for flow. Derivative lyric for lyric.

What other song sounds like jump around even from their own vocals standpoint?
