2 things can be true at the same time.

There has been some religious conflict in parts of Africa and the Middle East.

But, at the same time, the U.S. has been f***ing over these same countries under the guise of "regime change" and "foreign aid" for decades, often subjugating and negatively influencing the very people they're claiming to help.

A lot of people don't even realize that many anti-LGBTQ laws in Africa were directly influenced by White Evangelical missionaries. And a similar thing has occurred in parts of Latin America too.

So, it's a case where the religious conflict has merits to it but the concern trolling done by the government is fake af and they really just want an excuse to exercise authoritarian control over a foreign country.....all over again.
