I feel you. And I understand the roles groups like the Five Percent Nation has played in hip hop and in people’s lives who needed some sense of structure and community.

Not sure if you’re saying that’s what I’m doing, but in no way am I s***ting on something to make outsiders feel good. My stance comes from the fact that I was radicalized and influenced by the Five Percenters, Nation of Islam, Hotep/Kemet rhetoric, etc. when I was younger. But eventually realized a good amount of it is nonsense and is targeted at people who aren’t thoroughly educated and/or those who are longing for a sense of community because they can’t find it in dominant society.

I’m against cancel culture. But also Jay-Z, Wu-Tang, etc. aren’t gonna come out and openly say what Nick just said even if that’s what they believe. He’s free to have any belief he wants to, but this wasn’t smart unless he’s cool with losing the part of his income that was coming from his white audience.
