  • vinyl can sound like s*** if the recording isn't a***og and is mixed for itunes. producers weren't always sampling off the original material guys will sample from a studio artist interpolating music to save on the sample cost and to have a slightly different sound. only thing i agree with elitist producers on is people getting too comfortable on stock sounds and drums

A good turntable setup and vinyl objectively sounds more crisp and clean than YouTube rips

But it really depends on how the sample gets used. If it’s really buried in the beat it doesn’t matter as much

  • Sampling a break from YouTube should be a sin tho

Producers are using ai vocal chops now. I agree, we have a responsibility to keep music authentic and soulful

Producers are making AI samples now.

And I agree with the notion that people sampled vinyl because that was what they could pick up for free at relatives or buy for cheap at thrift stores, not because it had elite sound.
The reason they used 808’s back in the days was because no one wanted them and you could get em cheap at thrift stores.

Don’t try to buy yourself talent.
Buy some cheap stuff and buy some liquor and good food, and work part time so you have more time to live and make music.

    F*** all that elite equipment.
    It’s a trap

it’s a fact that processed samples from YouTube sound like s*** it’s not really snobbery

95% of music listeners and most importantly the rappers rapping on these beats can’t tell the difference and don’t give af

Yea it's like the nerds who believe they're part of the 0.1% percent who can perceive any meaningful difference between 320 KBPS MP3 and FLAC

yall fr turned “youtube rips sound bad” into a race war thing

  • Not as bad as people making it out to be

  • I guess I see his point because I remember finding beats I made in high school where I was applying of YT and the quality was pretty s***ty but tbh it was mostly because I didn’t know how to mix for s*** But with the way the world is today YT is the new crate digging. And it’s not like you can’t go from YT to actual archives and find other sample sources of quality is where you draw the line

  • lilbiglil

Weird he's saying this as those YL/Starker/Papo2oo4 guys whom he works with make music that sounds like it's built around sampling youtube rips of Hot 97 hits from the early 00s.

They're also getting canceled rn...first two anyways

  • i promise you the listener does not care or notice

why is the alternative having to spend a bunch of money on vinyl? Just take five minutes to hop on Soulseek or whatever and get it in decent quality
