you should visit his pusher films if you haven’t already they feels oddly humble

I prayed to the gods above, even through I knew it wouldn’t happen, that this would be close in tone to that wonderful trilogy

I’m eating regardless but damn I would’ve loved to see that with a bigger budget

Looks good I guess, but I have a feeling his style has been copied to death the last 5 years or so that it isn’t that unique anymore. Basically looks like your average Netflix original crime show.

I’m sure it will be a lot better than your average Netflix show tho

"Searching for justice and enacting vengeance, she encounters her nemesis, Rakel, as they embark on an odyssey through the natural and the supernatural. The past ultimately transforms and defines their future, as the two women discover they are not alone, they are many."

This is gonna be a Only God Forgives / Too Old To Die Young situation where s*** get mystical and occult outta nowhere ain't it lol

If that is going to be the score this is going to be hard af

I don’t anticipate him ever doing a straightforward dirty crime drama again but he should definitely link with mads again

Dude Lt. Chang pulls a sword seemingly out of nowhere (no sheath or nothing), chops boys hands off and ... randomly sings karaoke

Not only that but the movie can be read as Chang being a reincarnation of One-Eye from Valhalla Rising

A mixture of both, TOTDY's best episode to me was the p***o episode lol and I like certain aspects of the weirdness s*** but the ending didn't stick the landing.

In a way NWR kinda reminds me of Yoshiaki Kawajiri, another dude who mixed urban dystopias with mysticisim

The Mandy episode? That was definitely the centerpiece, forshur. I just really like how they’re all these grim fairytales. The fairytale aesthetic really does it for me.

Never heard of this artist but I’m not really a big anime person. Are there any good characters in this guys work?

I agree, the fairy tale aesthetic is fire. There's just some things that don't work for me narrative wise. And yea, the Mandy episode is the s***.

And yeah his best work is Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

Only God Forgives is still one of the definitive movies about Toxic Masculinity IMO.

I remember I was so worried to watch it after all the bad reviews, but to my surprise, it’s hella rewatchable.

I mean, come on, this is beautiful…

Such a wonderful ending to me…

I like that there’s always a romantic “heart” running through his work, no matter how dark it gets. In OGF, that heart is just abstracted and made more minimal. His relationship with the stripper is the sliver of hope. Julian is completely self-hating, and incapable of intimacy, but there’s still that broken, silent, puppy dog swoon that I fall for every time.

Its so funny to me i always read into OGF slightly different to what i read most people say online (in terms of the main theme of the film)
