thug is a more provocative song writer in his hay day, future is more consistent at circling the same tropes within his music

Thug is great with flows and melodies and inflections but songwriting it’s not a discussion future got him

but all in all i aint complaining

  • Future wrote March Madness, I’m not even the biggest fan but to have thug over him on a list like this about songwriting is wild

Future hook game way better and that’s a big part of songwriting

I think op has to bold AMERICAN unless some of u mfs are being ironic

    Kendrick East African?

If Bunny is included--must include Vico C at least. Hell Tego, Don Omar and Daddy Yankee too if we're going down that road.

American lists this decade are basically "whos been hot the last 5 years or so?"

Idk, a good chunk of this list are older songwriters

Flows and melodies are a part of songwriting though

songwriter encapsulates the totality and thugs ceiling is/was higher as far I’m concerned even down to his lyrics being more peculiar it all meshes in a more interesting way

  • Not that crazy of a list tbh

Thug sounds crazy at first glance, but when you think about the fact that they’re ranking songwriters and not rappers it makes enough sense

I might have taken Wayne over Thug still. Ne-Yo should be on the list too. I wouldn’t be mad if SZA was there too

  • I can't seem to find tom waits

  • user_offlineforeve

    drake

    Canadian

But also wouldn’t qualify because he has people writing for him. Similar to Kanye.

lyricism/storytelling is song writing. A song like I Gave You Power or 4 Your Eyez Only is top level song writing.

Thug after UY Scuty? Even as a big fan, his writing hasn't excited me in a long time. Also no Drake is weird when he is the biggest hitmaker of our generation

Lyricism is an aspect of songwriting, it’s not the only factor. Thug excels at pretty much every other facet of songwriting over Cole and Nas, they’re just better lyricists than him
