Yachty def changed his game a lot and stepped up since his first hint at fame/relevancy. When he first was getting famous, he didn’t take anything seriously and was def in the bucket of “I’m just having fun and I want to be famous”.
He was pretty irreverent towards rap as a whole but he switched up and started really taking things seriously these past few years. Seems this happened w a lot of rappers from that era who are still relevant.
Respect for your craft and the genre is what keeps you around. I’ve became a big Yachty fan this year off the strength of this
Cole is an amazing rapper technically/lyrically who unfortunately has issues balancing this next to his artistry. I still think he’s massively overhated but no doubt he’s simply better at rapping than making albums, hence why his features are so insane compared to many of his album tracks. That said I think some of his most hated albums (4YEO) are underrated
yeah cole is definitely overhated

4YEO ain’t really hated, it’s just foldin clothes lmfao
Just like a travel pillow, we at your neck for the way you slept
why am I still discovering insane bars

When 4YEO dropped the hate was off the charts online. Like I didn’t see anything positive about the album for weeks except from stans. Since then it’s been remembered as more lukewarm but I remember when it dropped every single comment was about falling asleep to it. Didn’t help it dropped at the peak or “you need a certain level of intelligence” memes sparking Cole backlash

That’s the problem with using online to gauge how much an album was appreciated. He went on the longest tour of his career off the strength of that album (62 shows)

I mostly mean general public/reception not from fans. Like technically CLB from Drake was trashed into hell but broke streaming records too. There’s never a singular way of gauging reception for albums since there’s always diversified opinion among diff groups/circles
hes been honestly dropping the best music of his life lately
bruh lol
He at least trying to be versatile and that’s all we need from the niggas in his lane

A 62 show arena tour is a pretty good gauge of the success of an album
Where
the part about chasing young nigga flows and relevance
if I wasn’t lazy this is where I’d link hillbillies
Although I personally like that kendrick does that and Cole arguably also has noticeably started doing that around the time of a lot + rotd3
Should be interesting lol
The racial stress fake activist seems like a direct line to Kendrick after he ends it with “studio steppers”
Mr Morale was the complete opposite of being an activist or a voice for social justice
Studio steppers being a Kenny reference is funny af tho
COLE IS THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE RIGHT NOW
Lol you think this was better than what Drake did on the Harlow record? Ruined that boys life
A 62 show arena tour is a pretty good gauge of the success of an album
Nah I don’t disagree I’m just saying there’s always a gap between “hip hop discussion circles”, “public discussion”, and then the people actually listening to music. I like J Cole so i don’t mean this in an insulting way, more just a discussion of general reception

I think Cole is in general insanely jaded about politics and social activism since like 2018-19. He was on that wave for a long time, remember he even did the whole prison jumper on tour thing and quietly marched in several protests and stuff, but idk something def happened that pushed him over the edge. I have a feeling he got caught up in people posting dumb s*** online
I hope this is just a KTT thing and the Kendrick disses (let’s be honest he NOT dissing Kendrick) don’t catch any momentum in the media/x
Nah he def dissing Kendrick
The fake activists/they'd like it if we stayed oppressed bar sounds like it's towards BLM organization
