alright now be honest. how many of these niggas will do that my g? niggas won't even read the bible to save they soul but you think niggas gonna read to respect women

It likely won't happen. But for niggas who claim to actually care about black people then it should happen. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink

He has only been getting better. 2014 Forest Hills Drive is a classic and 4 Your Eyes Only was great too. Didn't really get into the last one though.

Depends on what you're looking for but I can start you off with Americanah and We Should All be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Assata Shakur's biography, Octavia E Butler does a great job fusing science fiction with themes on black womanhood. It Was All A Dream by Reniqua Allen. Women, Race & Class, Freedom Is A Constant Struggle by Angela Davis, and the documentary Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 features her along with Kathleen Cleaver heavily throughout. The Origin of Others and Playing in the Dark by Toni Morrison. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.

i actually get what she was saying. black women are on the front lines fighting for all black people.

noname is one of the biggest figures online helping spread information. just this week we say another black girl leader get molested, go missing and killed after using her voice. so the last thing they wanna hear rn is “check your tone”. black people are literally fighting for their lives. if you have the ability to sound calm then use your own tone to convey what needs to be conveyed. people will have different tones. people will do different things. but everybody should be working towards liberation if you’re truly about it.

Dawg, I don't know what this cocktail party effect is about the "queen tone" line, but nowhere in the song does he say nor imply her to "check her tone" the way yall are delineating. He said her tone bothers him, because she essentially tried to drag the likes of him and Kendrick and whoever other "favorite top selling rappers" with "discographies about black plight" that exist for not tweeting about matters that need more than just twitter fingers.

I'd be bothered by someone's tone too if I'm making an effort to talk about these issues song-after-song and putting the work in on my own time, in the flesh, to fight the good fight, but somehow reprimanded for not doing my part because I didn't TWEET dawg.

Could J Cole better utilize his platform to promote fundraisers and petitions? Sure, but the difference in support is negligible if he's already helping.

The point is to, yes, be angry, but don't point a loaded gun at your own brother when we're all out here trying to survive and do our best.

    Good song.

The lines abt noname make sense. Preaching 2 the Choir isn’t very effective, can’t lie.

One thing that nobody understanding rn is that this is NOT a diss, more of an advice thing. Cole has ZERO hard feelings towards Noname, he just feels that there are better ways to do what she trynna do.

I’ll leave it at this Cole was just being honest on this record and this wasn’t a diss to no name. He literally just addressed her that’s it. This cancel culture s*** is corny. Cole doesn’t need to address s*** over social media there’s only so much that s*** does at the end of the day. Who knows what most “celebrities” are really doing during these times behind closed doors. Despite Cole being one of the biggest hip hop artists alive he lives a super private life and has a family and he don’t put that s*** on social media like a lot celebrities do. Very few rappers actually have the balls to go out and protest with no security too. There’s been multiple videos of Cole in Fayetteville protesting with the community. He don’t need to be on social media addressing s***.

I’m pretty cynical but this s*** really just seems to me like more evidence this whole “woke” persona Cole has run with over the last few years is purely self serving
