nice avi
Yeah its the foam tech they use on the midsole, similar to a nike vaporfly. Essentially a marathon runner since its a relatively comfortable for long runs, but its kind of heavy.
827s give me more of a Stone Island feel, especially the black ThisNeverThat ones. They're all black & grey and detailed but they're lowkey enough to fit into most outfits without being the statement piece. The 827s are running shoes too, but comfortable as casual every days too. I use mine as beaters.
When I think of Stone Island in today's age, I think of the black/dark toned tracksuit look thats completed with a lowkey white/black shoe that doesn't have to compete with the SI patch. When they announced this collab I was hoping it would be an 827 since they've got a futuristic-esque silhouette which the classic SI colors would've complimented so well.
I just feel like a runner as obnoxious and thick as the fuelcell already stands out, add in a huge red SI logo and its even more off-putting.. I'd imagine it's practical for running still since its a visible shoe, but imo, it's an odd model to use as a collab in 2021, especially since the brand's collab climate seems to be more oriented towards the work-from-home/casual easy wear look à la ALD, Auralee, etc.
I guess the other gripe I have is that the collab just seems kind of lazy. The OG shoe is already for sale in this colorway, and all the detailing on the sides that make it look like its ripping through another shoe, is going to fray so quickly. Its a cool concept on paper & photos, but I'd imagine it'd look so messy after wearing them (even casually) for a while.
Appreciate the info on the running tech - I'm pretty sure you've mentioned running regularly so it's really cool to me that you're able to look at these shoes - and I'm guessing a lot of stuff you're into - from a style and application standpoint.
I don't keep up with SI enough to know where it's at now but between the patch always being a symbol people are drawn to/the associated hype and the shadow line, I never thought of SI as a whole in that way. Has SI as a whole been moving that way/is there a particular reason why you feel like that toned down look embodies SI now?
You sold me on the black thisisneverthat 827s to the point that sometimes I wish I got that pair instead (those and those pony hair 4s Misha always be rocking got me to flip my whole stance on blacked out sneakers in general). That pair in particular really helps me see how you can see 827s as futuristic but do you have any other examples/thoughts on that because I definitely wouldn't be going down that line of thinking without you mentioning it first even though I got a pair?
You're absolutely right about the collab climate that NB has cultivated (and I go as far as say the overall feel of the brand in general) and how these feel obnoxious vs that. The SI collab different cause it got that branding boom but how do you feel about louder collaborations like SRs or the water Salehes? Or even louder GR pairs like:

I actually really like the stripped back effect but yeah, seems like textbook better in concept over practice and as soon as I saw the big SI patch on the toebox I knew they were chilling effort wise on these too esp relative to how long they had been teasing em.
Oh s*** yeah! Forgot to post them, def been my favorite pair in a long time, pretty sure I’ve worn them for like 2 weeks straight.
Just took a quick pic, love the detailing on them, I will admit I’m not the biggest fan of the manufacturing of it, theres a couple glue blemishes & the N’s on the sides feel like I could rip them off with ease. Nothing too serious though, Kinda makes me feel better about using them as everyday shoes though.
idk is this new balance or new new balance thread discussion but I ended up winning the grey and green ald 550s after entering for the latter as a back up
resell def tanking too
Where tf is my shipping email from ALD. I copped off early access too
2/3 have shipped for me. Be patient. Green hasnt shipped yet. It's random, no color sequence.

NB taking a pair of shoes that was at some point limited/hyped and then flooding either that exact same pair or something similar is a classic maneuver so NB discussion for sure
Sorry you went in with NNB thinking and got caught up by them OGs

Rare they tank it with a collab as opposed to inline model though
I figure I'll prob be able to break even anyway cos these still seem popular and the gen release part was botted hard by all accounts.
Dunno how to feel about a retailer doing a raffle for multiple colours and everything being kinda vague on stock though.

When are retailers not vague about stock though?
You're right about the collab vs inline model point but I feel like it's different with these because the ALD collab was how NB first reintroduced this model if I'm not mistaken

Yeah there's basically no way to make it clear lol

Yeah got the shipping confirmation last night. It helps that ALD doesn't mess around with their shipping. Package is supposed to be here Thursday. Some brands will send you that shipping confirmation but not actually have your s*** in the mail for another week. Then another week for the actual shipping

They're pretty good in my experience.

I love what people have been doing for the louder collabs. Really like the Bricks & Wood NBs. I’ll admit I’m not a fan of any ALD new balances. They’ve been misses for me & I hate 550s. Cant say I’d personally wear the Salehe’s water pair but the orange pair is to die for imo.
827s just a solid modern/futuristic silhouette that can be done so well imo. Admittedly I’m biased towards them as they’ve just been one of my favorite models for a while.
I’ll take back some of my critiques on the SI collab as I think they’re cool as themselves. I just really had more hope for it being a monochrome/techy shoe since they really push those single color/ monochrome sweatsuit looks.

Seems like you're both basically done with the shoe but thought it was interesting to see it in hand on video
