Lead author Ishanu Chattopadhyay is careful to note that the tool’s accuracy does not mean it should be used to direct law enforcement policy; police departments, for example, should not use it to swarm neighborhoods proactively to prevent crime

If it's predicting chicago crime then i'd bet my left nut that it spits out something like: "In 2 days nine black males under the age of 19 will be shot, two will die"

And then when it happens the people at the university are like: "OMG HOW IS IT SO ACCURATE?!?!! 😱😱😱"

They tried it in 5 other cities. But it's mostly in urban areas tho

Of course it would perform well in urban areas — those areas across the whole country have very common and predictable patterns of crimes.

This "AI Minority Report Miss Cleo" bullshit will actually be news when it spits out something like: "A 37 year old man with brown hair and a mustache will stab a woman in her home at 2:36 AM and will be caught 7 weeks later 235 miles away"
