To my ears, this album is a sonic continuation of his debut. With that being said however, every aspect of Commons artistry has vastly improved. His lyrics are written better, he found his “voice” and cadence, and No I.Ds production is overall much more refined as well. There’s some moments of pure brilliance on this album, like “I Used To Love H.E.R”, which is a masterpiece. Overall a pretty good album that realized the potential that he showed on his first album, but this time actually delivering on. Only moments I didn’t really like were the pointless skits. I don’t think they were necessary in the big picture. There’s a good chance I will revisit this album again.

    Final Score: 8/10

Favorite Songs: I Used To Love H.E.R, Book Of Life & In My Own World (Check The Method)

Least Favorite Songs: Any of the skits

    Oh my b

LWFC, Be, Electric Circus & Ressurection come to mind, in that order

Hes not a super amazing rapper to me, but LWFC & Be are genuinely really great in general regardless

That’s dope. Yeah I like him more as an artist than a rapper, I think he’s great at making albums and gets great production and he has a thoughtful positive energy that’s unique and inspiring

My top 6 in order is probably

    LWFC
    Be
One Day It’ll All Make Sense
    Resurrection
    Electric Circus
    Finding Forever

    All above a 9/10

Agreed, i have huge respect for him & i do think he's talented & earned a legacy.

Just that overall he's not my type, but he does have a project here n there i still love. And some feats.

Very accurate tbh, not even to box LWFC in like that because it’s easier to listen to imo but yeah so much of what Kendrick did on TPAB common was already onto with LWFC. With the love that TPAB gets this album definitely deserves more love, feels like it’s legacy has lessened over the years unfortunately

this is one of my favorite rap albums, even though I dont revisit it often. its one of the best 'positive' rap albums, not in its sound but how it generally sounds like home. its very welcoming and nostalgic, feels like this 'positive longing' that you get from Nujabes music

no ID did this in 94 which is crazy too, some of those flips are so soulful, you could hear somebody like Kanye being absolutely mesmerized by them

and yeah common barred out but iirc there was some corny bullshit mixed in. I dont really mind it for an album such as this though

yeah, people generally talk about Be when it comes to Common and thats mostly because of Kanye which is imo unfair. I wish people mentioned LWFC in the same breath they mention The Roots, Be, or OutKast music, at least so One Day It Will All Make Sense and Resurrection got some of that shine as well

  • Jan 18, 2022

Common’s discography is top tier. He is in my top five!

LWFC might be his best album but I agree, it’s unfair that ‘BE’ is always brought up because of Ye. Common has so many other albums that deserve praise

It was wayyyy less corny in comparison to the first album.

I’ve enjoyed doing this with Common and I think I’m going to start doing this with more older discographies in the future.
