You are defending someone defending pedophilia based films

you are also a kid f***er

I’m a kid f***er, got it, because you say so and draw conclusion. Hop on twitter bro, you’d fit right in with the faceless crowd who blindly get mad because it’s in vogue and it hurts your feelings.

I haven’t watched the movie but obviously is very uncomfortable and getting everyone f***ed up. But I wonder how often a situation like the movie presents actually happens. Or how girls when they are young follow the trend of social media and their peers To fit in when they shouldn’t because they’re not of age.

But I’ll probably get called names and accused because you’re so frustrated about it. Whatever man, enjoy November when it’s time to vote.

    what is there to understand?

theres no gray area here kid f***er

Bro, this is why I keep saying you talking without knowing anything. I haven't defended anything about this movie. My only criticism in this thread is the people LIKE YOU, speaking so matter-of-fact about things they read a head line about.

    Here is my review...no spoilers.

‘Cuties’ at its core is a character study of an individual who is living in a society where those who seemingly get the most attention, have the most fun, and are accepted partake in actions that goes against the cultural values in which you are raised.

The movie follows Amy, a young lonely muslim girl who befriends a group of young girls who happen to be trying out for a dance competition. Amy is subjected to ridicule and peer pressure from them which leads her to start acting more like those same peers. She starts to dress like them, she begins to engage in social media, and is introduced to a whole new explicit world as a previously sheltered teen. Her naivety of social norms and need of acceptance soon lead her down a path that even her new peers disapprove. By the end of the movie Amy faces the final question…”Was it all worth it?”

A lot of the outrage of this movie has been focused on the portrayal of the young girls in the movie and how it panders to pedophiles. Not once in this movie did I think that the movie promotes pedophilia or sexualizes young girls for viewer pleasure. It’s quite the opposite. During the final dance sequence, we can visually witness how a lot people are disgusted with how sexual the girls’ performance is. The movie doesn’t even promote provocative dancing. The provocative dancing is just a reflection of what these young girls see in media and what they think will get them attention and accolades.

I will say this…it is uncomfortable watching little girls dance provocatively and have camera shots on their asses but there is no intention of glorifying this behavior for viewer pleasure. There is a scene where the girls are learning how to twerk. It’s played off as comedic and also meant to characterize Amy bonding with her peers by teaching them how to do it. Honestly, the controversy behind this had me unnecessarily a***yzing how long the camera lingers or positions itself on certain shots…which was unfortunate. Whether or not certain shots in the movies are necessary or not can be up for debate, but they do serve a purpose.

Overall, this movie was a decent indie flick. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s flaws lie in its lack of creative direction. And at a runtime of only 90 minutes, the movie could have spent more time developing the main character and her arch of rebellion more.

    3/5

Niggas finna ignore this post so they can continue being outraged

Purposefully ignoring a films outlying premise to promote that people are 'fake outraged' is hilariously cringe

BTW, should take a look at Roger Evert’s Review on Cuties, jsut to get some fresh perspective.

What you mean ignore that? He literally says there is very creepy camerawork that gazes on and sexualizes little kids and it even defends what they’re doing as “sexual liberation”

    This is filth

no one is saying these things arent real issues

there are just others ways to get that point across, which therefore leaves absolutely no excuse for this to have ever happened

you can make art that sparks a discussion about the things you stated, without filming CP (the fact this even needs to be said, holy f***). In the process of trying to get this “message” across, they are literally subjecting those child actors to the exact problem they claim to be combatting

Which is why i call complete bullshit that it was their intention to have some “deeper meaning”. Sounds to me like that is their excuse to hide behind

good art and good artists do not have to resort to twisted shock value s*** to get a point across

tired of yall making excuses for hollywood’s f***ery

Considering there are interviews going on to note about the child actors and the directors own past of role models to be a woman and how things are in the current age, I don't think it's absurd or overdone, just never noted or made in a movie because it I have to stress the dance scene was made to be utterly horrid to the eyes with or without context in the hopes to question this. But to say hollywood f***ery when it's a french film and they have a different philosophy to movie making, it's par for the course.

If you want a french film that is more appropriate and not feel like the feds gonna bust down your doors, try girlhood, where they are more in line of teenagers and trying to circumvent the shaky world of peers and role models. Same director as portrait of a lady on fire. Just my thoughts.

I wasn't defending how it promotes pedophilia, and you never wanted to respond to me or Sktilla on the other themes this movies presents but very quickd to sub me and him so you can pat yourself on the back like you did one more good thing for humanity. Just like how either vote will do no good in the long run.

also for people defending this because of its message:

what stopped the creators from just making a documentary about women who were sexualized as children instead of making a film sexualizing children??

edit: apparently this is about liberation for muslim girls? The f*** does that have to do with showing real life little girls touching their crotches?

it even won a f***ing sundance award and is favorable among 30 critics

it had to pass through so many people, production companies, streaming platforms, etc. makes me wonder

just weird, makes me think this is taking something at face value off of headlines and tweets and not viewing the content and deciding for yourself

i for one have no want or intention to watch this, but if you think critically and take it as potentially a reflection of this social network attention seeking - tik tok esque society, where kids are really doing variations of s*** like this - it is an interesting conversation/ commentary

Even the film producer openly says its to hyper sexualize kids

no its a movie about that s***.

expecting it to be a critique of hyper-sexualization in society, might be wrong tho
