So lgbtq think this will create a spike in abuse towards them?
pretty much, that’s the logic because not everyone is big brained
and i know social media and youtube comments aren’t the best in the first place, but look at any mainstream normie media youtube comments and see if the comments are transphobic or not
People are allowed to have different opinions then you on cultural phenomenon that have only emerged in the last decade.

transgender and non binary ppl have been recorded in various cultures for much longer than 10 years

I guess we’ll have to wait and see… to me it seems like people are giving Dave way too much power. I think people who may not necessarily be “allies” of the lgbtq might use Dave’s special as a tool to dig themselves in, but those that would threaten violence or even just verbal abuse, were always gonna do it regardless.
The most potentially harmful thing is the TERF bit, people can misconstrue that and run with it, even though to me in full context I don’t think it’s worth the outrage. I think something the LGBTQ community fails to acknowledge is that people feel like they’re forced to like them. They’ve made a lot of progress in gaining acceptance. I’m 29, and I can remember when Ellen was outed l (first time I ever heard the word lesbian) comparing that time period to now, the lgbtq community has pretty much out paced every other minority oppressed group in terms of commercial acceptance at least. Fully acknowledged and realize that to a regular everyday lgbtq person they still face a lot of abuse and discrimination.
The crutch of the issue which Dave touched on is that it comes down to race tbfh. White men and women have found an area where they’re counted as minorities in this country, and for lack of a better term… they abuse that position to gain ground, but are very quick to revert back to and rely on that whiteness when it suits them. Now they’re plenty of non white lgbtq people who also have issues with what Dave has said. Even though that wasn’t his intention they are still affected by his standup. The exact thing they have an issue with, idk I haven’t done my homework on that tbh. The few opinion pieces I’ve read written by black lgbtq members all say they started watching the standup but cut it off 20-30 mins into it. It’s hard to take grievances seriously when they’re primarily going off what they’ve heard from other people.
Correlation???
They’re a couple other groups of people he’s made fun of consistently, interested to know if you had an issue with that as well

yeah i totally agree, too many white ppl when rightfully criticised for saying some f*** s*** fall back on “but i’m gay” and use their privilege as a safety net. i’ve also seen ppl blame their neurodivergence as if that’s an excuse either
but yeah, there is an issue with social movements being taken over and having white ppl as the face of it. another example other than me too is stonewall. the ppl at the forefront of stonewall were primarily queer and trans poc, particularly black, but a lot of ppl don’t know that
my issue is that he touched on it, and that is missed by a lot of ppl. particularly those that might have been neutral to trans issues and are now being reactionary to the criticism. like me personally, feel that him touching on white privilege aspect within the queer community wasn’t done right, it was kinda glossed over. so a lot of more neutral or reactionary ppl would misinterpret it. idk if that makes sense
like the patrice skit about high value white women is a well done piece on white privilege cause it’s got depth, is thought out and is actually funny
like ultimately the whole special was mid, if it was funny i doubt there’d be half the outcry

Pretty big difference between sketches about white people or black people or whatever and releasing two whole specials basically just talking about trans people lol
It’s weird. Im a fan
Even above all this the s*** just wasnt funny
the last one made me laugh atleast
I miss when Dave wasn’t a ludicrously wealthy, out of touch bigot actively spiting queer people and using his platform to enable casual transphobia. I miss when my life wasn’t constantly treated as debatable.

Fr my respect for him has been dropping after every single one of the last few specials, maybe aside from the 8:46 (probably only one where he didn't mention the LGBTQ+ community). And he used to be my fav comedian oat...
Stay safe my g, I can't believe what it must be like for you
All this talking about Dave fell off in this thread meant he wasn’t for you to begin with . Black community still loved Dave and finds him hilarious. So move on.
I don’t really get what’s so problematic about what Chapelle said. Can anybody explain this whole controversy to me?

He made some jokes about trans people and said they care more about their feelings than black folks dying (which is true and this whole controversy is proving it) and now mfs got their panties in a bunch.
Sensitive ass b****es
Why the f*** did TMZ use that picture what a POS platform
This how Kanye feels when he sees his Apple Music pic
This take is so weird to me, go back to the most famous comedians and they always got political . Richard Pryor talked about black people getting shot all the time and other troubles the community was going through. Why when it’s this other community every joke is an attack
