99-2007 a pretty tough era once you start digging thru ngl
this era?
Yes where you can outsell the stars and still be under the radar

yea i think every era was dope in its own way, that era was tough but like it probbaly has the least well aged music of any era and the least like new artists whos music is still fresh today, plus the mainstream was at its peaks with hits sure but aside from the underground it was extremely commercialized and sometimes formulaic (crossover rnb song - street single - etc.) and the west coast didnt exist
it had some amazing music though yeah but it was a mixed bag overall id say- mixed enough to where its confusing to me when ppl act like its 1993 or something

but is Rod Wave under the radar or just not on pop media? he’s on every major black network, got Grammys, sold out arena tours
i think pop media just isn’t the most powerful force anymore

If we're talking about rap yeah it was quite mixed but still had enough classics
00s pop is timeless tho

i guess what he means by tough is the barrier for entry mixed in with some all time music and artists was way harder to compete with than today, where as today, if 5 of us got $50K we could make some motion fast

yea when i think tough i was thinking he meant like good but yea now that i think about it hes prolly saying like competing for being the hitmaking guy which makes more sense
also yea true i think its moreso ppl still get budgets but we also see the people without the budgets cuz they can get visible
