It sucks that the committee has created this mentality. Teams should WANT the potential resume boost with a win and some leniency if they lose. But instead those games might as well just not happen because neither team stands to benefit in any way regardless of the outcome

Exactly. Might as well play MAC teams

It would be so f***ed up to those players to leave them out because of an injury. It would also make a complete mockery of the entire sport. First you had to win a conference championship, then you had to win all of your games, now you can't have anyone get hurt? Wtf kinda s*** is this

If we're TRULY saying it HAS to be the best 4 teams, this stupid ass committee shouldn't exist and Vegas should just select the 4 teams then.

  • FSU being left out would be by far the most unfair and embarrassing decision in this sport in both the BCS and CFP eras

I actually wouldn't mind this but it would just be Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, and Ohio State every year

And that definitely supports the whole "why even play the games" argument

One of the major problems is that the committee always talks about the "4 best teams" but they have rarely ever actually had to follow that. Most years have only featured 4 legitimate contenders. Only 2014-15, 2018-19, 2021-22, and this year have had more than 4 teams that could have realistically made it and they defaulted to resume in every single scenario so far.

The best teams FSU played are LSU, Clemson, and Louisville.

Alabama beat Tenn, LSU the same win LSU has, blew out Ole Miss, lost to Texas a top 5 team who is better than anyone FSU played and beat UGA the number 1 team in the country.

Alabama is 1-1 against teams in another world than anyone FSU played.

Well the loss in that 1-1 was a game where they got their ass kicked at home, and they also almost lost to a bad Auburn team and was within 1 score of the University of South Florida for 97% of the game

I think that takes a bit of lustre off the 1 win in that 1-1

  • There's a reason you have a SOR measurement

FSU is top 3 in SOR (not sure if this is updated for today's results yet), Alabama is 4th. Even with their weaker SOS, they've more or less accounted for that with how bad they've beaten up dudes (before Travis got hurt). They probably beat a 10-2 top 12 Louisville team by a multitude of touchdowns with Travis, and the SOR would be even stronger

there's no sizable gap in those two teams from an overall season perspective; if anything, the favor would be for FSU up until the Travis injury

I bet if Alabama plays Texas again they win

They started their third string qb in that’s game. That’s another problem with valuing loses so highly in the early part of the season. You lose the context of the season. No single team is the same as they were in sept. There needs to be recognition of that and a degree of lessening influence.

A loss against a team that’s in the top 5 in the country is not some death knell like people propagate. Especially when you go undefeated and improve on the field since then. Why does the Auburn game always get brought up when just last week FSU struggled against a worse Florida team?

Not a single one with Michigan, Washington, FSU, Texas

And only 2 with Texas in at all, but 3 with Florida State in. Interesting
