"We can't just focus on wins and losses" in a sport where the regular season is 12 games
Sure man, why don't we just scrap the games altogether and have 247sports and MaxPreps rank each roster on paper and hand out the championship that way
Oh brother lmao
The SEC is given 10 teams in the preseason AP top 25 each year and they all have to get to like 3 losses before they're even under consideration for removal
It's all an illusion. Bad teams being grossly overranked to prop up good teams. South Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, LSU, not a single one of these teams has belonged anywhere near the top 25 at any point this season.
South Carolina has wins over Mizzou and A&M and played bama within a field goal. Vanderbilt is a good team with a great win over Bama. LSU has a win over Ole Miss. These are all good teams I mentioned. They have flaws yes, no team is flawless this year.
Let me ask you, Would Miss State beat Purdue? Would Miss State beat Oklahoma State? Would Miss State beat Florida State?
Go conference standing by conference standing, how many would the SEC win?

no one is saying this? you're misconstruing what I am saying. You even quoted it and chose not to read the words. "We can't just focus on wins and losses". Just is the key word. It's not just your record. It's about how you play on the field, team talent, real a***ytical tools. Having such an unbalanced sport with spending, team resources, recruiting, coaching, and opponent quality requires a subjective committee to determine the field for the playoff. You can't just boil it down to wins and losses. You are not what your record says you are. This isn't the NFL (and even the NFL you need some context in evaluating teams).
SEC/B10 breaking off for their own playoff structure and I'd be on board with a more hardline NFL-lite system. Things are more equal in that world than it is now. Indiana wouldn't be able to skate away with 106th best schedule in the country.
I'm not against Indiana, I think they are p**** for backing out of Louisville, and playing Western Ill, FIU, and Charlotte. They get credit for beating a team of blue chips in Michigan. They played them tight, but they did gut out a win. I don't think they'll be as fortunate with overwhelming depth and talent of OSU. I'd be surprised if watching the game it feels closer than the PSU OSU felt and that didn't feel particularly close regardless of the final score. If they keep it within the PSU margin, they should be in consideration for a spot. Now that consideration should never be higher than a team with a much stronger schedule and 2 losses within that schedule eg. Ole Miss.

So South Carolina has wins over Mizzou (grossly overrated, shouldn't have been ranked), A&M (okay) and played Alabama within a field goal (lost)
Vanderbilt pulled off a good, fun upset. They are a 4 loss team.
LSU also has 4 losses. They lost to USC and Florida who have 5 losses a piece.
These are just simply not good football teams. Beating other teams that were unfairly given their rank because of their conference does not make them good teams.
And no, Mississippi State would not beat Purdue nor Oklahoma State. They would beat Florida State because Florida State is one of the worst P4, if not the single worst P4 team in the country this year.

(Projected Off Production and Projected Def Production)
Purdue is def the worst and would get smoked by Okie State and Miss State.
Marshall is 7-3; are they better than LSU, Arkansas, or Florida? What criteria are you using to say they are simply not good? I would not say Miss State is a good team solely on their conference membership, that's a strawman.

I'm using their results on the field?
Arkansas lost to Oklahoma State who is 3-7 and they're a 5 loss team themselves. Not a good team.
LSU lost to 5-5 USC (who has lost to Maryland and Minnesota) and they're a 4 loss team, could be 5 if SCAR didn't lose their starting QB to injury mid-game.
Florida might have the weakest resume of all: 5 losses and their best win is... LSU? Like come on.

I would take Marshall over Arkansas for sure, Florida depending on the day, and probably not over LSU but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they won on a neutral field

Marshall would win because they have won more games? More talent?
I just don't get why you're boiling down more wins=better.
F*** Nebraska and Matt Rhule. I was pulling for you, but you gotta be kidding with this s***.
Indiana literally controlled who they play.
To be fair, our and Washington’s falloff is not their problem.

Them buying out of a Louisville game and changing it to charlotte is their fault.

And what exactly is a Louisville win worth these days, fresh off a loss to Stanford for their fourth of the season

And I don't get why you're comparing P4 teams to G5 teams knowing the gap in talent and competition has already been accounted for by the playoff system

More than any team that Indiana has played.

Cuz it seems that you’re just flatly using W/L record as an indication of a team being good or not. “Marshall beat more on their schedule then Arkansas so they’re better.”
Technically, 5 G5 champs could get the autobid, but for that to happen they’d be p5
James Franklin should absolutely 100% be out of a job if he gets to play an SEC team in State College in late December and loses

Him vs Lane would be the Day/Franklin matchup earlier this year. 😂
