I have a lot of problems with military decisions. I have a lot of problems with foreign policy decisions. I hate that Trumps administration is deploying national guard on cities.

But do I want some Average Joe who just signed up for the National Guard to support his family without having any idea what his assignment would be to be killed in the street some day for decisions that those above him made? No

And it’s not like this is the Holocaust in terms of doing what they’re told, a lot of the national guard are literally just bored walking down the street. Yes there are some huge POS racists, but it’s also not ICE where the whole blanket mission of the job attracts racists

The national guard exist to function in the interest of the elite not the average person like the military, police, etc. who cares that a police officer signed up to “protect his community” when the institutions and practices that come with policing serve to harm minority communities.

The NG as a body exists precisely in case genuine working class discontent gets to a point where they need to violently quell opposition, who cares about this individual situation the fact this happened in the first place is a symptom of a larger issues with the decline in living conditions in America and the govnerments increasingly militaristic response even if symbolic in the moment.
