Don’t let him confuse you. The curse is nothing like Nathan for you.

I know I’ve seen it
I’m saying the show confused me
Seriously one of the greatest shows of all time

Search hitler instead, plenty to watch there
I pretty much binged this in two weeks, damn near banger-only show, though my fav bits are prob the one-off stories rather than the recurring character parts - they're also executed really well and help develop his own character, but the best parts are def the absurd schemes
the souvenir store/ The Web episode is prob my fav, what a masterpiece lol

yh def. honestly having basically watched rehearsal, curse and nfy in one month you can make a fair case for all of them being his best tbh
I'd personally prob say
Rehearsal = NFY >= The Curse
tbh you could even make a case for How To With John Wilson being the best Fielder-related show, but that's ofc its own thing and even harder to compare
it's also like basically one big Fielderverse anyway, knowing one show already makes you appreciate the others even more

How To was such a blissful watch lol
Curse is very special to me. 100% unique.
But NFY is still the opus imo. There’s just more to draw from. 2nd half of rehearsal s1 is a little rough.

yh I'm prob gonna rewatch How To now, blissful is a good way to put it. so wholesome, funny but also incredibly poignant. simple premise interrogated to absurd lengths until you arrive at some seriously profound truths.
you def have that in NFY as well, just not spelled out. most of it is implicitly about societal conventions and ethics of behaviour, and juicing all the comedy out of that as well
lowkey the Claw of Shame is kind of a metaphor for the entire show tbh, he's brave af for blurring the lines between his actual person and his character so much, risking that a majority of people probably think he's actually an a******. I showed my mom some of NFY and she doesn't get it at all and kind of hates him lol
also sry for mini-rant, but as a neurodivergent (adhd) I don't really buy that he "just" researched aspergers for his character.
it is a theoretical possibility ofc that he's just a great actor and you can't definitively diagnose someone based off of a fictional character, but I do think there's basically no way the creator of all these shows isn't somewhere on the spectrum and I mean he even acknowledges himself at the end of rehearsal S2 that a lot of ppl on the spectrum are convinced of this. like, yes he's clearly at the least high-functioning/ can mask well - my theory is that his character is leaning into and exaggerating his actual (irl better masked) autistic traits and sort of interrogating that. I think he distanced himself before because he wasn't really ready to own it yet, I can say from personal experience that it is a trippy af experience to realize you're an undiagnosed adult. kind of hope in rehearsal S3 he's able to fully embrace it

Go off king.
Interesting last point. I think he’s gotta be somewhere on the spectrum forreal, but combined with an incredible observer, believable actor and a precise sense of humor… and you have a singular supervillain
just finished the series. finding frances is like a top 10 episode of television for me
Nathan's bond with the escort was so layered and weirdly beautiful tbh.
obviously it's kind of sad and peaking his King of Loneliness arc but at the same time she actually seems like such a cute wholesome person and there does seem to be a genuine connection there, even though you can ofc never know how much that is just her doing her job well/ performing. it's also just gas that he was probably able to use comedy central budget to literally buy hours and hours of time with an escort lol, but also pretty masochistic to do entirely on camera lol.
Bill Gates also rly sad story about love, time, regret. beautiful ending, love that they took their time with it.
ultimately i don't think it makes a difference if Nathan is on the spectrum or not as the conversations and inspiration mean more and overshadow it (in a positive way, ofc) to those that find it relatable and it doesn't make an impact on the quality of his work
but for what it's worth, i don't think he is. he's definitely doing a bit and committed to the character so as long as cameras/phones are present.
he's himself on some old podcasts (with Ben Simmons) and most recently the Curse Q&A and The Rehearsal panel discussion with Jack Black
there's an interview from 2017-ish, I think, with Rolling Stone where he said he researched Asperger's for his TV persona
