&alchemist album - when?
Just thought about how a No ID collab would be dope don’t even know last time I heard No ID….4:44?
Dope that Premier in the Budden interview spoke on being sampled in a scratch chorus is the highest honor.
On this album this honor was given to:
Thats quite a lineup. Really dope to me. A love letter to real hip hop in the raps, but also to the legends in scratched choruses.
Listen to the album on a good system. I’m guessing you’re playing on AirPods?
I’m not an audiophile or anything. I can just tell when I go from one song to the other that there is a difference. Maybe it’s by design but the vocals are fuzzy.

On AirPod though right?
Life Is Good is allot of No ID iirc
Yup, 6 songs on the album were produced by No I.D.
Modern classic album.

I played it on my Sonos speakers too. Idk. Again I know nothing about this stuff. Are you saying it’s just as good as the other tracks?
This is a solid project but expectations were probably too high. Nas is still an incredible rapper but DJ Premier's production is rather average throughout this project.
The other issue is that this album would probably be 4th best in the 6-album Hit Boy run? Makes it feel more average.
I get the Billy Joel sample, but I'm not sure NY State of Mind 3 deserves it's title. Good track, but doesn't live up.
On the other hand I think 3rd Childhood is my favorite song on the album.
The AZ track is pretty disappointing. Also didn't need another shout-out track (Ladies) after Writers.

Just say you hate women
The more I listen to it I feel like Premier treated his position of producing Nas as like a score leaving a lot of room and space in the beats for Nas to shine and work his pen. And I think the expectation was classic signature boom bap classic Premier in your face beats but considering where they are in their careers it was never gonna be that.

A real love letter would’ve been some fire production

Shhhh people will blame you for wanting better production from one of the goats.

Go listen to I Am…, Nastradamus, God’s Son, Street’s Disciples, Hip Hop Is Dead and tell me how many mid beats you count
This new album is better than half of Nas discog off prod alone

Fire production is exactly what I got.
Sucks to be you I guess

Nas has never been known to pick great beats. But I’m also comparing these beats to some of premiers more recent fully produced projects. Prhyme and the gang starr album. Which I find way better than this. It’s ok that not everyone loves the beats. I’m not even saying any are bad. Are you saying the beats are out of this world?

Not a big fan of Street’s Disciple nor Nastradamus, but would gladly take those two over this Premier project.
There’s only been a handful of Rap projects with fire production from start to finish this year; Light-Years was definitely not one of them, at all.

Nastradamus over this is a wild ass take
