I imagine they like progressively started toning down because subconsciously they knew some of these artist were actually seeing, or could potentially, see their reviews.

Like I remember back when TPAB dropped Kendrick actually acknowledged their review and shouted them out because they were the only critics to properly interpret some themes.

And I feel like I remember Logic acknowledging them too.

I don’t think they’re scared of the artist. Might have just hit them that the artist are actual ppl and may not have gotten into the “that’s just mean” territory

DEHH still a solid channel. I still watch their vids and I've gone back to listening to their Is the Mic Still On podcast. Really a great collective of hip-hop fans, who also have good convos about politics and American society and pop culture. They definitely show their age at times, but I appreciate that perspective.

Crazy to think I've been a fan of them since 2011. Back when they was just some dudes standing/sitting around at the park, restaurant, in a car, or at one of their cribs just talking lol

It's crazy how most of the content creators from channel awesome have gone on to become more successful than Doug.

i think this has more to do with timing and style of content. doug is still surprisingly popular and relevant online for the fact he literally is making the exact same type of content he was at the start of his career. even at his peak, doug wasn't the most popular in TGWTG really - he was just kind of the figurehead of the brand. i remember even like Spoony (lmao) and Linkara (lmao) often getting much higher views, not to mention the numerous other creators associated with Channel Awesome. compare this with AVGN who is much more popular by contrast but has matured his content substantially (and also had his own audience). doug's audience was always an amalgamation of everyone around him + his own audience.
