anyone who lets a violent dog run loose in their neighborhood is also wyling. Back in the 1940s, 50s, etc in America, even kids would have to carry guns or knives because of wild animals like stray dogs. too many people think dogs aren't dangerous today because they're not running loose everywhere, if somebody's dog is violent you need to defend yourself / your family

Didn't say it was rational (although I'd argue that it actually is), just saying that if it's a you or my dog situation, I'm picking my dog 9.98/10x. People love their dogs like they love their kids, and threatening to kill someone's kid if they misbehave on your property is going to put a similarly sized target on your back.

The far better approach is just to talk to the humans and come to an understanding. I asked my neighbors to stop letting their dog run loose and they did. Going on year 2 or 3 of them being with the dog every time I see him outside now.

Yeah I agree that’s definitely a terrible approach to trying to get someone to take better care of their dog

But it’s not rational to kill someone in a situation where you’re the reason its happening, you’re 100% in the wrong and the owner wouldn’t even be able to play the caring owner card because if you truly cared about your dog it wouldn’t get lose every week.
