I love the version of What About Heaven he posted on IG so much more. I understand he’s a folk singer but those keys sounded so much better and rawer than the guitar. I didn’t like the tempo of the song either
I would be really interested to hear him go more into the direction of his producers if that makes sense
Like his voice could be such an interesting thing over some Jamie xx or James Blake production that’s more in line w what they usually make than this folkier stuff - like sampha does a lot of electronic music which works so well w his voice
But it’s almost like this album being folk makes his voice less exceptional because a lot of folk singers have exceptional voices
That being said I really like the album I just hope he’s willing to go left field of it for his next project
His writing is simply poetic. Although, I’m still warming up to his vocals, I think “The Hearse” will be the one track that will click for those who aren’t too fond of his thick delivery.
This project reminds me a lot of “Carrie & Lowell” from Sufjan in terms of its subject matter and delicate & ghostly atmosphere but the vocals on C&L are from a generational vocalist.

I agree with this but I also think that how he used what we would call folk and fit it into what he wanted to do is genius
Also I can see him going in a different direction next project but I think this is what he needed to put out now

That’s a really good comparison actually. I think that album has a little bit more depth in a way but only cause it came from someone SO seasoned
Might be biased cause C&L one of my favorite projects oat
Don't crease your air forces
Just stay inside tonight
You know what's happening outside
You say it's okay
But you tucked your chain
Like if they take it
I won't see you for a while
And I tell you how I feel
In case it's the last time
You know the odds, you know the flaws
It's all by design
Someone from GTA correct me if I’m wrong but was it Pressa’s crew who put out a hit on Smoke?
It’s just a shame that I’d heard 5/8 songs before the project dropped.. fair enough that it’s not an album, but wish he didn’t drop as much of the songs before.. still a fire project though 🙏🏽
”If she runs her fingers through my past, she may lose the softness in her hands”
Probably the most beautiful line in music this year..

Agreed. Amazing album but zero replay value since I’ve killed those 5 songs already.

It wasn’t a hit. He ran into the opps outside a day party and words were exchanged. The rest is history.
My boy found this walking in Toronto
