    actually f***ing embarassing

when this s*** drops like a stone billboard need to reevaluate their formula

  • Jun 16, 2020

remixes shouldve been gone a long time ago

Lil Nas X literally mocked billboard for 19 weeks w remixes and they didn't change s***

Yeah these overtly trash tax tics just making number 1s lose their value

Knew the rat and Nicki had some finesse planned lmao

Yea it’s just disappointing to see Billboard fail to take meaningful action

I hope at least that they’re figuring out implications of some sweeping changes cause this year has been a f***ing mess

    • Radio needs to go
    • change the sales limit down to 2 or even 1 per person
    • remixes need to go
    • playlist curation needs to be investigated and thought about

He has no integrity lol. He'll do anything to get a #1 song while failing to realize that doesn't change the public's perception of him as an artist. Prince only had 5 #1 hits but many of us know him as one of the top dogs along with Janet, Mariah, Whitney and Michael even though they all had double the amount of #1 and top 10 hits.

I'm sick of artists no longer wanting a legacy to be left behind them. They just want big hits. I know it's always been this way with only a few who really wanted to be legends and influence future generations of artists, but it's too crazy now. IMO he is the worst of them though. He doesn't care if it goes #1 then drops off the whole chart and not due to it being a seasonal song either, he just wants to #1. I do hope he doesn't get it Savage remix or Rockstar can take that spot away from him.

I agree with all this but if remixes go what happens to a situation if a song like Ignition Remix drops that's clearly different

they should just be their own track and only the larger one charts

so take Say So for example

the remix releases. it doesn't boost Say So's position. If Say So remix has more play/streams whatever it charts where it would chart as an individual song and Say So is removed from the chart for that week.

remixes should still be able to chart but they should be viewed as separate songs from the original rather than additive

plus look at some of the songs that went #1 briefly in the 80s or 90s

no-one f***ing knows what those songs are

everyone has already forgotten songs like The Scotts and Stuck w U that dropped massively after their first week imagine how its gonna be in 5 years noones gonna even know they existed

radio will naturally fade away as more people start to use streaming

you can't force something to go when it's still a large part of music consumption, maybe put more focus onto what numbers streaming numbers impact the chart though

if anything pure sales (pertaining to the hot 100) should be thrown out before radio

I feel like pure sales are a better representation of what people are choosing to listen to

Radio is just songs that are already charting and/or labels are paying to be played

And as we have seen, stans mass requesting songs on radio

Well it is, I was just saying that his peers all had twice or even more than he did and he's revered as being in the same lane as all of them.

James Brown has 0 #1s and he's known as the "MJ before MJ" lol. IDK his peers though so it would've been harder for me to compare to anyone in his range.

Damn. It's really not like that already? That's how I always assumed it worked.

Nah so right now the bigger one of the two is the one that gets shown on the charts BUT the streams/sales are added together for all versions of the song and that determines chart position

Like if say so got 14k points and say so remix got 16k points

Say So remix would chart with 30k points

I think that it should be that Say So remix charts with 16k points

It’s how Lil Nas X stayed at #1 so long. The song was already massive but every time he released another remix it would add 20-30% to his points for that week

Wow. That's ridiculous. I wonder what the industry's argument in favor of it Is. I can't even understand how this makes sense to them versus the alternative.

I think the industry likes it because it gives them another tool they can use to push songs up the charts
Like 69 released an alternate version of his song today to try and push it into #1 because it’s close

But yea to me it just allows labels to game the system in yet another way

Well yeah but like what incentive does Billboard have to go this route when it seems to only benefit labels and not make much sense logically? The whole thing intrigues me

The remix tactic had been used before in the past, e.g. The Weeknd dropping two The Hills remixes to block Hotline Bling, but it has gotten out of control since OTR.

I believe other charts like the UK chart separates remixes and their original song. If Billboard goes down this route they will probably have to do the same for deluxe albums of a certain length.

Yea I have no clue either

Maybe they just take a while to change it because it’s only been very clearly abused for a year now tops

I just listened to Rockstar for the first time and it’s honestly a generic song

It’s super poppy generic gangster rap song for white frat boys
