there's obviously a massive label push, but the song took off on streaming on its own

it debuted at #5 on Spotify, without playlisting, and then the label gave it a big boost

they would be silly not to put everything behind it at that point

    oh yea agree

Doesn't Bieber have 2 songs in the top 5 of the hot 100 and three in the top 20 as we speak and he was 6th on most streamed artists for the last 3 months including as of yesterday. What are we saying here lmao.

If this Olivia girl can be not relevant in 2031 to that extent then she wins at life

We in agreement b I’m arguing that Bieber has had a massive career

It debuting at #5 for a debut single is even more evidence of label work. They probably spent a month marketing this thing to teens before it even came out

you're not wrong but at the same time a lot of new artists get big industry push like this and none of them have done what she's doing with this song in its first week

there's definitely some degree of "organicism" to its rise. It's not just big label chart manipulation

if it were that easy, Camila Cabello's debut single after leaving Fifth Harmony would've been a mega hit out of the gate with the ridiculous amount of industry support she had

This song is such a blatant Lorde ripoff

All the way down to the random swear word in that bridge

Lorde was ahead of her time with all this ā€œbedroom popā€ out now. From this Olivia chick to Billie. Pure Heroine is a classic.

At the end of the day, this is a radio ready song with a sheen of musical prestige, clouded by (Disney associated) growing public drama, aimed at young girls during one of the worst chart droughts in recent memory

These crazy numbers do not surprise me. Being shocked by this is like being shocked at 6ix9ine’s ig live return views

I still want to call bullshit on the number of streams this Driver License song is getting but than I talked to my sister who was able to tell me in detail the drama behind the song like she studied it. So now I’m convinced I’m just getting old.

If anything though this makes it more surprising to me

It doesn’t have that lightning in a bottle feel, it feels pre planned and manufactured so it’s weird to see it do THIS well

Yeah we’ve never seen something that seems so planned from the jump actually take off. In that sense it spits in the face of what we thought about committee type planning in music actually working

But I don’t doubt that luck is a big part of this, let’s see if it can be replicated
