Why do labels feel the need to “create” pop stars by picking up some random soul less pretty face, giving/buying them an inorganic hit by shoving it in our faces only for them to get shelved years/months later ???

When has that ever worked ?

Doesn't matter if 98% of them fail, they will always try to make another Britney

Lorde was "created", Billie Eilish, One Direction, Bieber to a large extent, Bruno Mars etc

the vast majority of pop stars are essentially label creations

I think Olivia Rodrigo is gonna last

the song is good and interesting, she's a talented songwriter, her work makes sense for Jack Antonoff to get involved

listen to this song she wrote
    theres obvious talent here:

if anything the biggest issue for Olivia Rodrigo is that she's like 5 years too late w the music she's making

but having that songwriting ability gives her range to make her sound more fresh

Besides Lorde & maybe Bruno (needs to release music) none of them aren’t as prevalent as they were before streaming

JB is already getting exposed and is barely relevant

Didnt Billie drop a song that climbed to #2 & tanked ? Her time’s coming, that whisper singing s*** is on a timer

How exactly is the label pushing the song? It doesn’t have major playlist support, no radio deal. It seems like an organic hit.

lol the song has 100m playlist reach on Spotify rn its got huge support in that sense

its getting pushed the f*** out of on tiktok and the only reason it doesnt have enormous radio right now is because its debut week and I still guarantee its gonna get high radio play first week when the numbers come out

these sort of things dont just happen lol this s*** has been carefully planned

that being said it is relatively organic compared to a lot of the #1 debuts of 2020 and people do really like the song

billie is still doing well and I cant see her career really faltering that hard

one direction are only not enormous because they quit we cant act like they haven't had enormously successful careers same with bieber

I agree things are in a different place with streaming but its a proven tactic in the past I think it still has the power to put artists on

would not shock me at all

I cant stress enough how needed some regulation is in the entertainment industry

disney should not be allowed to do this s***, apple and Spotify should not be allowed to become labels and etc

s*** apple and Spotify shouldn't even be allowed to take money for playlisting f*** all these labels investing in Spotify its absolute bs

UMG works with Disney so they usually sign everyone from there
