    God I hate December

Best Christmas song tbh. It's a classic, and Christmas songs (and movies) aren't essy to make. Most end up being mid.

Instead of all these excuses let's stop the cope and just admit it also wasn't that good. Its as simple as that no need to get mad and name call

Love the song but After Hours still felt pretty recent. Too soon for a new era.

I heard songs like Life Is Good, Levitating, Mood way more last year but that's just my experience. I don't even think it was #1 for a long time so I don't really get the billboard record thing. Felt like when people make up new stats for LeBron

Weeknd is a Popstar with a trap rapper work ethic (Lil Baby ,Future,Durk )he’s always dropped something, pushing something or has something in the works

He might not be bigger than his competition (Taylor, Adele,Drake) but he’ll outwork them and possibly outpace them eventually

It's literally just a chart man thats unbiased math and people have always made those for him. There's whole youtube videos about his chart performance. That's not a personal attack get a grip

I don't get how unless you purely mean from a Billboard perspective & that was just cause BL was way more friendly than his previous huge hits. Songs like Starboy & The Hills were absolutely everywhere, same as BL. Just didn't have the radio on lock

It didn't increase his album sale numbers either so I just don't get why so many people think it made him more popular

Eternal Atake did 60% more streams than After Hours for example

I’m not really understanding your point? On pretty much all fronts BL made him a lot bigger than he was pre-BL. His Spotify numbers are at an all-time high (3rd in the world rn) and this is what AM looked like yesterday lol

Not to mention he’s got like 5 songs in the Top 40 right now.

Huh? After Hours was his highest fw sales number to date, and The Highlights is currently like #9 on the BB200 as of Monday

You can cherry pick the same type of stats for Starboy. Like this

"On Spotify, The Weeknd continued to break global records--including his own. His new record-breaking one-day-total is more than 40 million streams"

    and

"Following the release of Starboy, all 18 songs from the album charted on the Billboard Hot 100. At the time, it marked the second-best total simultaneous Hot 100 entries, after Drake charted 20 songs at the same time in May 2016"

    and

"In the US, it was the third-largest debut sales week of 2016, the second-biggest week for album streams ever (175.2 million streams, behind Drake's Views)"

Then look at how big he was pre BL. Starboy was the 20th most streamed song of all time on Spotify, he had 3 songs in the top 100 before Blinding Lights. I don't think more than 5 artists have that

After Hours managed to boost sales by abusing bundles, check the streams out and it was kinda meh for him with only 169k streaming sales, Eternal Atake did 279k, Juice Wrld 288k, Dark Lane Demo Tapes 214k. In fact he didnt' do much more than Polo G's recent album (125k)

When this new album is out there's gonna be a lot of shocked people when he struggles doing 200k

to be fair The Weeknd prob did grow in Latin countries over the last few years due to much more collabs with latin artists, which is where I'd bet most of those numbers are from. On the top 10 vevo artists list 5/10 artists are Latin. Drake isn't even on there, nor is Morgan Wallen, Olivia etc. Latin countries are a cheat code for views/stream numbers but awful for the artist which makes them all try go to america

I just don't think he's a top 5 artist in the US anymore. Drake, Kendrick, Taylor Swift, Adele, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Olivia Rodrigo are all more popular. Him trying to sell out stadiums in the US is actual insanity & I'm willing to bet it'll be a massive failure

I wasn’t cherry picking any stats at all I was speaking purely on monthly listeners as of rn which is the highest it’s ever been in his career, despite no new music being released aside from features that you all say are flopping heavily, but seem to be putting eyes onto Abel as the monthly listeners have just kept increasing post-release.

It set a billboard record because of its longevity, it spent over a year in the top 10, the previous record was 39 weeks (Circles by Post), while Blinding Lights spent 57 weeks. It also spent 43 weeks in the top 5, and 90 weeks in the top 100.
For comparison, Old Town Road is the longest running number one, it spent 19 weeks at number one, but only 23 weeks in the top 5. Not sure how long it was in the top 10, but it was less than 31 weeks for sure (that’s the lowest in the top 10), and less than 60 weeks in the top 100 (again that’s where the top 10 stops).
