He had a message that a group of people resonated with. When he got executed by the romans he became a hero for them but they were still regular jews and he was pretty much a political hero at this point, think MLK type. With time this group started growing and people wrote his life story down but added a bunch of miracles to make his message get heard which was a common thing to do at the time. Around let’s say 80/100 years after his death they decided to spread through the roman empire to convert people and that’s when s*** got real
