I honestly understand why people shat on 808s when it came out (I even remember Kanye being shamed for the autotune singing when I was in 4th grade lol)

For how influential it is (and probably his most cohesive project), I could see how plebs looked such a bleak and miserable (though extremely well crafted) album as a slap in the face:

• it's one year after Kanye was crowned the crossover king following Grad, which might be the most uplifting and anthemic classic hip-hop ever
• we finally get real promise of the first black president
• the MCU kicks off
• Tha Carter III era is in full swing
• the iPhone has been out for a year

...and other "happy" events in pop culture like Bey's IASF era

No One Knows Me has to be one of the best ballads of the decade
