ya in essence it’s jus a hip hop album with a bunch of r&b, technopop, soul elements thrown into it, but wayne was so big that year that songs on that album got extremely popular and it gave it the perception of being watered down in doing so when in reality it really wasn’t lol. wayne wasn’t trying to actively appeal to everyone like that, (looking at the C3 sessions) dude was just f***ing around and experimenting and he made an extremely influential classic, honestly no matter what he put on the album around that time it would’ve became exceedingly popular and then perceived as “watered-down” or not “real” hip hop

it has songs that it would to (like good life) but the whole album itself isn’t like that so no lol

rock stans aren’t going to want to hear something like everything i am, if you want to play with semantics and say one pop rap song is enough to make a project a pop rap project then so be it, but im personally not going to do that because it’s such a lazy way to categorize music and it’s lowkey racist too. just because the nigga isnt talking about how many niggas and b****es he’s going to f*** on a track 4 mins straight it’s immediately pop music? that’s just nonsense lol

Like I said before I think you could make a pretty strong argument that Champion, Stronger, Can't Tell Me Nothing, Drunk and Hot Girls, Flashing Lights, The Glory, Homecoming, Bittersweet Poetry, and Good Night are fitting into that pop-rap category and that's 9/15 songs on the album.

It might be a harder sell but I could see arguments for Good Morning and I Wonder as well.

why you always gotta take something small and run with it “watered down”
