    blonded

So what do you think pop rap means then in your own words? Can you give an example or two (album wise)?

if the music is noticeably watered down and rhythmic it’s pop rap, in my feelings is a good example, the beat is skeletal but drake lays down a nice hook in autotune w some dry verses about women and other s***. lollipop too, wayne is just singing/rapping about a b**** sucking his d***, the vocals are heavily layered even down to the background vocals, and the song itself is just a double entendre

by definition, just because the lyrics are NOT accessible and the subject matter is NOT toned down does not mean it is not pop rap. b**** don’t kill my vibe does the same exact s***, but again, y’all are only paying attention to the hook and that is it as if that’s the main crux of the entire song, but bdkmv has such an iconic beat and the hook is so memorable that it serves well as a club banger but when you look at the verses and the actual tone/subject matter of the song it honestly shouldn’t

    3 out of 4

I was a inquisitive kid and my Mom never shut me down in learning. Anything I wanted to know she bought a book for it I was reading and trying ti read Sherlock Holmes and Shakespeare in elementary.

She didn't force her beliefs in me either and let me freely learn and if I saw interesting stuff I went for it.

So reading, upbringing and interest I'll go and studying something on my own for a month if it's dope enough.

On a personal note my great grandmothers was the catalyst for my religious knowledge going beyond the basics.

She gifted me her personal bible and I wanted to understand her better as an agnostic person.

you seem like a really bright person thanks for answering so thoughtfully

im not denying pop rap has catchy hooks and s***, but to define it as solely “accessible lyrics, toned down subject matter, catchy hook” is something of a white critic

it literally cannot only fit one (catchy hook) and then you turn around and call it pop rap, s*** doesn’t make any semblance of sense, that means black skinhead would be pop and as we all know it definitely is not
