    Nah Friday wasn’t just a hit, it was a cultural phenomenon out the gate.

    movies like Hollywood Shuffle and Fear of a Black Hat were overlooked by white people.

    not really. friday only made about $28 million in theaters. more money back then and was low budget but was definitely a movie that grew its audience over time.

    for a low budget movie that’s considered a hit and critics loved it at the time. I don’t know where this Friday was a cult hit argument is coming from tbh

    There’s plenty of black films that were actually ignored or panned by critics. Friday wasn’t one of them, maybe if you can’t the sequels.

    eh id maybe agree to sleeper hit. it aint a hit if same year major payne outgrossed it

    looking at rt and metacritic it did solid critically but nothing over the moon and a lot of those reviews have been posted after the fact rather when it first came out. metacritic has it at 54% but no surprise lot of the humor didnt work for them
