Wouldn’t really be painful. Their total body oxygen would slowly deplete while their carbon dioxide level would slowly build up. They would start to become tired and confused, and would probably just fall asleep from exhaustion as their blood oxygen level continued to dwindle to the point where they go into cardiac arrest and die
