"MS fans got nothing though. CoD would have released on Xbox, Diablo would have released on Xbox, Elder Scrolls 6 would have released on Xbox.

I guess you can argue they get those games on gamepass, but those were deals MS could have made far more cheaply than buying the studios. MS could have spent 1 billion dollars instead of 80 and had all those games day one on gamepass.

If having those games day one gamepass is the goal then MS paid about 80x more than they should have. Which is why it’s obvious to anyone with even half a brain the real reason they spent all that money, to take those games away from PlayStation users. Pure and simple. Xbox hasn’t become a better place to play games, they paid 80 billion dollars to make PlayStation a worse place to play games.

And again, that’s the entire point of these purchases no matter what kind of BS Phil tries to tell you. MS couldn’t beat Sony on a level playing field, they tried for 20 years and failed, so they brought a dump truck of money to un-level it."

I think one thing people aren't putting into perspective is how much revenue Sony would lose from the 30% cut they take from all PS Store transactions if CoD became MS exclusive.

Love it or hate it, COD games sale a lot YoY. As an example, Black Ops 4 sold more in 2 months than GoW 2018 sold in 8 months. The revenue on CoD games is huge and not just that, you have all the DLC/MTX as well like CoD Points and things like that which also brings in a ton of money.

If MS was to make CoD exclusive to Xbox even if it's just the annual games and they left Warzone on PS that would still be a huge blow to the revenue PS would get in, there's a reason why Sony has held on to their CoD deal for so long.

I mean I know you didn't write this but this a dumb argument. It's more than just those big titles. The whole purpose of all these purchases is Game Pass.

The end goal is to have all these studios pump out games so they have new exclusive games hitting Game Pass if not every month every 2-3 months similar to how Netflix pumps out new Netflix Originals damn near every month.

Notice how every studio MS has acquired has gone on a hiring spree? They want all these studios working on multiple projects at once and it'll most likely be the same when the deal closes with Acti/Blizz. They want CoD plus more new games on top of that. I wouldn't be surprised if they take studios like Toys For Bob and Raven Software and build them up so they can work on new games as well as supporting studios like Treyarch and Infinity Ward on CoD.

They want all these studios to pump out mad games to keep people hooked on Game Pass and obviously bring more in to grow those sub numbers.

The only thing right in this argument is the fact MS couldn't beat Sony at their own game which is true, MS couldn't nor did they have the right management at the time to properly cultivate studios like Sony has BUT comparing MS of 2013 to MS of now is kind of dumb, pretty much every studio acquired has said MS has let them do their thing and let them build their games the way they want giving them creative freedom and more. Also the game MS is playing is bigger than consoles.

    yeah its forced competitivity

the plus is that greater fundng by a studio who actually cares more about games might mean better quality games

like maye ES6 isnt a buggy mess

but yeah ur right its not a big win for anybody

    theyre not wiping anyone out

they're just doing their best to be competitive

real talk this isnt gonna do anything for the hardcore crowd, xbox is ironically positioning itself as the mountain dew machine again

they'll make a s***ton of money for sure but they wont win over "gamers" (hate using that word because it got co-opted by hardcore conservatives)
