As a business model I wonder how much Microsoft invests into making a triple A title
Unlike Nintendo and Sony who are investing 100+ million as much as almost 300 million for Sony, they’re doing that to return a profit on that investment.
The game pass models isn’t about returning a profit on a single investment. However much starfield may cost to make isn’t going to make a return when people are paying $5 a month or $60 a year as opposed to 70 straight up for the game itself.
Will being the Netflix of gaming be profitable enough to make up for the losses that come with it
all I know is I've given Xbox more money this gen due to game pass

My only expense on xbox in the last 5 years has been paying for gamepass
And bought gta 4 for $7

just by me being on Xbox more because of game pass I bought back 4 blood dlc, out worlds spacer choice, wwe 2k23 icon edition, a bunch of Xbox / 360 titles, ass creed Valhalla dlc, participate in rewards challenges, a bunch of flight sim dlc. whereas before id buy like halo and gears and call it a gen
Xbox had the same deal before Sony.
Yeah and that was dumb too
. Sony at this point has had a longer deal
Not true Sony has games worth buying the consoles for. Xbox hasn’t since the 360 era.
200 million dollar budget games isn’t sustainable or realistic. Console sellers or killer apps. There is no game solely worth buying a ps5 for . Ps4 could saw last of us 2 or a few games yes but the whole reason this has gone on is because Sony is arguing their games help but being able to play a casual game helps more . Much of Sony top players aren’t buying the system selling games or playing it quick then what ?
i dont think it was ever broken like you could still get into matches if there was anyone playing
its just the other 100 ways its broken and hacked thats the problem
i haven’t been able to for a long time
i was trying to play bo2 earlier this year there were 5k people on

i think those player numbers on the menus have been busted for a long time and it all just depends on what time of day you play but ive definitely got lobbies in a few of the older games in the last year

Most PlayStation users are buying the exclusives tho
So Sony has a block on COD's going day 1 to gamepass, or maybe even gamepass going back 10 years with cod's. So we are looking at 2025 for COD on gamepass
HOWEVER, since this deal only goes back 10 years... maybe old cods (pre BLOPS) can get added to gamepass now... who knows
I think the CMA is talking s*** rn and this will close by the 18th

lol the data says otherwise especially when it comes to PS5

I mean sales are great. FF16 sold like 3 or 5m already forget which. Even horizon sold a ton.

Buying one exclusive a year isn't enough to sustain a console even if every single person in the install base did it. If every single PS4 and PS5 user bought Ragnarok then buys no microtransactions and plays it once or doesn't even complete it you really think that helps Sony?
Not everyone is buying Horizon that is why they gave it with plus
FF16 is 3 million and is a exclusivity deal

one time purchase vs the budget of it is what matters not the sales alone
Horizon too. 8.4m copied as of May.

588 million US$ minus 200 Million in production cost minus 50 million in advertising is about 338 in profit.

The mutualistic partnership has helped accelerate Sony's earnings to their highest point ever in FY2020, and also helped Activision generate a record-breaking $3 billion from Call of Duty in 2020.
You're right. Exclusives help push the consoles that make people buy the games that make the actual profit for the company. But they are a drop in the pond compared to 3rd party games.
WaW back?!
right when my 3 years goes away...

I don't get how PlayStation first party sales are downplayed when they're doing more than most multiplats
