and they had to throw around money in some regard to fill in gaps in their library while games are being made . It was either pay a unfair larger cut for 3rd party games that they don’t own or own some studios and get 100%

Also game production takes way longer than it used to so we won’t see the full effect of this buys until the release of starfield / 2024 releases . They’ve only bought Bethesda so far

Because others are also acquiring studios while they are. Their biggest acquisition may not even go through, so that will be time wasted where Sony and Nintendo have continued to widen the gap. If the strategy is just game pass, it isn’t enough. If their strategy is exclusive games, it will be at least 10 years before they are on the same level as Sony/Nintendo, if ever. You can’t build a slew of gaming characters that become household names like Zelda, Mario, Kratos, overnight.

You’re still assuming that they care about closing the gap in console sales which they don’t so you can’t attribute that a “failure” to them . The zenimax purchase also only took effect in 2021. Don’t you think it’s a little dishonest to consider that a failure when it hasn’t even been two years yet ? My point still stands that game development takes a long time. They aren’t trying do anything overnight either so that is an interesting comment to make.

Their strategy is bolstering game pass, increasing PC attention and mobile. Two out of those three have seen improvement even without big games from the deal coming to fruition yet. I don’t know how something can be a failure when it’s still in its beginning stages and they are still hitting most expected markers besides console sales (which they’ve already admitted to cutting sales to use hardware to bolster xcloud)

Because Microsoft is AIDS. Coming in and trying to buy everything to make yourself number one isn’t good for gaming or pushing the other companies forward.
