What surprises me most about MJ story is how long he lived with his family. Doing Jackson 5 tours post Thriller is insanity

just like its impossible to stop sun from shining they cannot change the fact that people absolutely love mike and his music

i do not know a single performer who gets as much love from regular folk out there across the board. mike's appeal was entirely worldwide

also its incredible how liberal progressives found themselves aligned with noone but moronic dnc pilled journalists who got nothing going for them except trying to tie dead celebrities to donald trump or whatever

Jaafar was unreal, I really felt like I was watching Michael Jackson. This would’ve been impossible to do without him, whether it’s a mix of talent or just the uncanny resemblance, he really pulled all strings in this performance.

That being said the movie should’ve been better for such an iconic figure like MJ. At times I felt like he was almost a prop in his own movie. The movie took the pacing and rhythm of Jackson’s the American Dream and cut out like 60% of the dialogue opportunities; it’s a ride on a shortbus that drops you off at concert scene after concert scene. Which I would’ve loved had there been more substance with the characters interactions themselves, but it takes the bohemian rhapsody approach of telling you how to feel about a dramatic scene without really exploring it or allowing the feeling to marinate before using that as a vehicle for the next musical number. I miss when the filming approach of Walk the Line, Ray, etc, set the standard for music biopics over bohemian rhapsody and the unreal engine 5 looking ass CGI wide crowd shots. It would be hard with how iconic MJ and his crowd are, but there’s no reason corridor or your 13 yr old neighbor can do a better VFX shot than movie studios nowadays

Despite this, for what it is (an expensive tv-movie with stellar performances, subpar writing and editing), it was amazingly fun the whole time, and I want to see it again to relive those concert scenes and music in a public environment one more time. I haven’t had as great of a time watching a movie in theaters as that in a long time, quirks & faults don’t really take away from the enjoyment of the film, but it left me feeling like there was just so much about MJ’s life, and even possibly more into the family’s lives that they could’ve touched on (they didn’t even explain why Jermaine was staying at Motown when they left, it was just said knowing we’d know why)

I understand now how people did love Bohemian Rhapsody because this was a music jukebox on the big screen of your favorite songs with a 90% physically accurate portrayal of the most iconic artist of all time. I like queen and Freddie mercury but I’m not obsessed enough to have seen past the corners they cut on that movie and the poor writing, editing, safe topics and predictive themes. With this one, all I can say is it’s Michael Jackson, and I will have a 4K Blu Ray copy as soon as it is released, holding a spot next to it for when “Jackson” can complete it.

& what’s a Michael movie without Diana Ross!

  • i was gonna see this yesterday but i was busy with some work

It wasn’t bad, but it’s abundantly clear that Fuqua was not the man for this.
