was there ever any doubt about this? i'm surprised people are surprised. it's literally michael jackson man lmao
literally should be the biggest film ever with his talent and if it had been done properly if this s*** was released in 1992 directed by spike lee or scorsese instead of The Jacksons: An American Dream it would have been invincible alas we never got it at his peak before the allegations came out with mj's involvement and marketing s*** wouldve been biggest film off all time in the cinema for like a year
critically acclaimed and beloved by all michael fans instead we got a film that while some people love its nowhere near the masterpiece we could've got the masterpiece his music and artistry deserves
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_in_film interesting looking at what got released that year an mj film wouldve fit in perfectly nothing wouldve been competition or stepped on it whereas 1993 jurrassic park came out n allegations were public looking back very interesting time
For a MJ film? Not at all though
people going solely off the name on paper doing a billi is expected but its not out of this world numbers wise considering how much physical media he sold how he was the most famous person in the world throughout 3 decades

Eh. As soon I saw Fuqua was named the director I knew this was never was going to reach its potential.

Oh it’s 100% not a good movie (though a fun one) and Fuqua is absolutely a hack but audiences have never cared about whether or not a movie is good. They’re sheep who flock to something simply for the IP and when the IP is MJ, this should’ve easily made a billion if not 2 b

It was never reaching 2 billion in today's climate especially with the April release date and competition, losing IMAX so frequently and then the 45 day PVOD.
Not to mention the lack of things like sing along screenings and arguably poor promo too.
Wonder what the original November release would've done for it.

Fuquas original vision of the film is a total opposite to the one we got, in fairness.
The Estate's ineptitude caused a total rewrite and then Diana Ross didn't want to be featured which caused a second one.
We’re SO close
I guess I can watch it for a sixteenth time... 🙄
Almost

It is done
I just know you had spreadsheets on the wall, just waiting for this

Just very happy to see it. It's a great achievement
Was there any doubt?
Filmbros and the Reddit type crowds tried to say there's not much demand for MJ projects yeah
But no, not much doubt in the real world
