yeah, the "he was a child at heart" defense is morally reprehensible. he is the most sophisticated groomer i've ever seen. the long recorded phone calls with safechuck's mom. he longconned all of them. he knew to get to the kids he had to pretend to be best friends with the mothers, promise them a glamorous life, and play up the strife between husband and wife.
