    Drake obviously more influential

But I do think Blinding Lights was an influential/impactful pop record as far as the 80s wave, not that it invented it but multiple artists heard Blinding Lights and said “let me try one” I’m pretty sure

Drake has not been truly influential since Views, and even then that’s the direction pop music was already heading around 2015

If you still think Trilogy is Abel’s best work in the year 2023, you don’t like music, you just like who you were at the time you discovered those mixtapes

Or maybe they just prefer those mixtapes?? Idk why weeknd stan’s always gotta say some weird s*** when someone says that his trilogy work is their favorite lmao

Drake's music is popular but it's also impactful/influential. Drake made One Dance and countless acts started seeking out Nigerian acts to recreate that magic. In 218, he scored two #1 hits using a New Orleans bounce sound and all of a sudden, niggas start making bounce records out of nowhere.

No one has looked at what Abel has done since BBTM and said "yeah, let me try to do that" and not because they can't. They just don't care to and Abel has scored massive hits since then.

Drake tries his hand at a sound and everyone follows suit. Abel ain't doing that.

Able made everyone get into their 80’s pop bag after dropping “After Hours”

    Source?

You can look on Apple Music. For example, i just jumped into Top 100 India and they had Blinding Lights, Starboy and Creepin in their top 30. Or South Korea got Die For You but no Drake song. Countless examples like that

Because it’s more often than not that people grow up and prefer the music they discovered during their adolescence. Most people who discovered Abel through Trilogy were in their teens / early 20s. Not hard to connect those dots.

My question was about Abel stans forever holding to the legacy and why Abel doesn't have an album as impactful as Take Care since they claim he was the genius behind that entire album.

Drake has multiple impactful mixtapes (SFG/IYRTITL) and albums (TC/NWTS/Views). Abel only has House of Balloons, which he made at the beginning of his career. There are levels to this.

Abel has been releasing impactful albums every couple years for a decade now and his career keeps growing. Blinding Lights is arguably the biggest song of the decade so far. Whatever level you're talking about in terms of discography has already been reached.

The fact that they’re blatantly ignoring the obvious influence After Hours had is hilarious

Probably because Drake hasn’t had a lead single in 5 years nor does he push stuff to the radios as much. Drake is easily bigger than Weeknd even atp

Weeknd is globally way more impactful than Drake and nothing really wrong with that. Hip Hop just has a certain ceiling how far it can go. Weeknd is popular in parts like Asia where Drake is not even relevant

Started from 2015 since that's the year Abel blew up:
    2015:

    2016:

    2017:

    2018:

    2019:

2020 (biggest year of Abel's career):

    2021:

  • lol i’m not gonna say anything cause I’ll be called a hater but this thread proves my point about them folks..

Die For You wasn’t released as a single until 6 years after it came out, and Starboy came out 6 years ago

This is simply not true lol

By the time one dance comes out, Bieber already has a #1 hit with that sound.

After hours comes out and we def saw an increase in 80s themed music. S*** tory dropped an entire album based off it lol

We're talking impact and you're talking numbers. Should I change this discussions to a numbers discussion?
