Churches declining in being pushed on younger generations, War on D****/Mass incarceration of black men, US government war on prominent leftist and radical movements (and black people’s role in them), whitewashing/erasure of the few black history parts we are allowed to learn, black culture becoming a commodity of itself and being the main export of how black ppl are viewed worldwide due to how pervasive American culture is.
all contributes to this
A lot of black nationalism gets curtailed into advocating for essentially a bigger piece of the capitalist pie (black owned businesses, black capitalism) not to mention a lot of the celebs unfortunately help legitimize these factors too or just openly support the DNC as a means to end itself.
but how were they supposed to tell it was gonna turn nasty.
When the guy made a motion to turn and pick up a brick.
The same way I had to step in when this b**** nigga made a motion before trying to strike m friend after she yelled at him (and threw money that he disrespectfully gave at her back in his face.)
Like c’mon all black ppl know the universal signs when s*** can go left and most times it be they own niggas that they don’t ever hold accountable that be like that.
maybe u just built different lol
cant expect everyone 2 be batman
there’s no excuse in the vid in op if there were a bunch of niggas standing around though
Thats what shawty is saying in the video dumbass.
And you just gon helplessly stand there watching your homeboy just pick up a brick?
It’s not about “being a hero” nigga alot of us are saying BEFORE it even gets go that point you step in
then i obv agree, my issue was just the other sort of undercurrent running through this thread that if you don’t singlehandedly help a stranger that’s in a volatile situation, (as in direct confrontation or whatever flowery superhero s***) you’re b**** made
i don’t agree with that s***, people are nuts
maybe u just built different lol

It’s not about being a superhero
None of us are saying realistically we gon do anything when the fists are already being blown I’m saying PREVENTATIVE.
BEFORE s*** goes left.
BEFORE niggas reach/leave the club for the gun.
BEFORE niggas make physical contact with a woman/man.
Cause this aint even about “white knighting” for me it’s as simple as bro why we doing this and risking bringing the cops here? Nobody (including brother man when he aint in his mentally ill ass anger’d state) wants to f*** up a rather peaceful situation and get 12 involved.
And once again, I am 5’4. A lot of yall men don’t have an excuse lmao.

foresight and conflict resolution skills are not something everyone has, especially not to the degree it would take to deal w this s***.

Yes we (black people) do bruh lol.
We literally have to so I’m not really hearing the excuses you saying about why multiple niggas couldnt have stepped in before bro even motioned to pick up a brick lmao
i remember seeing a similar tweet to this one except it was a brother and his sister, and the sister’s bf was on some abusive s*** so the brother tried to handle it
bro ended up shot and killed iirc
it’s just not a good situation man
I remember this video. Bro got blasted. Sad situation
I think both men and women (at least in the West), for various reasons, have become less traditional in the sense of adhering to their traditional 'gender roles' and the duties that come with those roles, such as men protecting women. I understand not wanting to risk your life to protect a random chick (even though it may be an honourable and self-less act, it is easier said than done to choose that course of action when considering the risks), but at least, in this specific scenario - if you see a man pick up a BRICK against ANYONE, ESPECIALLY A WOMAN and there's a group of other MEN around and not ONE or several of them intervene? That's just insanely low.

i don’t think this is necessarily reflective of the traditional gender role breakdown per se, but more of the bystander effect tbh
i don’t think men are collectively resting on their laurels and plotting to simply not protect women or whatever anymore, maybe what you said could be it or a part of it though
A group of 5-7 dudes terrified of one emotional nigga. So much so that they couldn't even get the bouncer/club security to get buddy to cool it before he even looked around for a brick.
But I get it. Can't snitch on some random nigga you possibly never even met before and have zero affiliation with. Then you'll just be a sorry, pathetic, and sniveling whiteknight.
Yes we (black people) do bruh lol.

whatever bruh be mad at everyone then i cant stop u

That's a valid point for sure, and I think the traditional gender role of a man + the bystander effect are relevant in this scenario. Surely the bystander effect is part of the equation, but I believe that if there was a stronger sense of duty to the traditional, masculine role to protect a woman, that sense of duty would rise "above" the bystander effect, so that the men with that stronger sense of duty would "snap out" of the bystander effect and intervene.
There's occasions where we all could've simply been bystanders in various situations, but where some of us, due to a stronger sense of duty, "snap out" of the bystander role and end up being the ones intervening.
One example would be if we see a child in danger. We would feel a stronger sense of duty to intervene. In the same sense, I believe that men who are more traditional in terms of adhering to their traditional gender roles would feel a stronger sense of duty when it comes to intervening and protecting women in need as well.
If it were my mother, sister, or daughter out there being subjected to attempted murder, I would hope that someone around would have enough empathy to do something.
I understand that not everyone can handle confrontation, not everyone is capable or willing to throw themselves into something potentially dangerous (stranger or not), but being a bystander is not something to be proud or to be applauded, imo.
Everybody needs more empathy.
In Germany we got a law that I think is quite good imo
Only help if you are able to and 100% sure there wont be unexpected danger for you
If she was grabbed, slapped or verbally threatened the men around her shouldve intervened. A brick is a weapon in this case tho there is no point playing the hero and potentially getting hospitalized or killed for a stranger

Fax.
Again...these same risks exist even if you know the woman. So what exactly is the difference?
emotional investment fam
there are women in my life who i’d risk my own life for. but i’m not risking my life for a random one
As a citizen, you’re only obligated to call the police. Please don’t let anyone bully or shame you into being a crash test dummy for a stranger.
Not intervening in any DV situations. I'll just tell him to chill or call the cops
yep. i got into this situation w my neighbors about a year ago. pretty sure i made a thread about it at the time
mans was wilding and beating his girl, i saw from my window and wanted to intervene but knew it would be so much safer if i called 12 so that’s what i did. don’t know if it really did anything tho
