There is more of an objective quality to it, and I see the reasoning for putting a quick star rating. But that reasoning doesn’t really apply to music, especially This day and age where you don’t need to go out and buy a record To experience it for yourself. that’s all I’m saying. If it’s specifically review for a vinyl record and the quality of it, see that’s an objective standard, you feel me?
I’m not necessarily saying the responsibility is on anyone in particular, I think we all can benefit from talking about this
shouldn't these scores almost matter even less now that physical copies are no longer the dominant form of consumption? i'm just tryna understand why the onus should be on the publication rather than the free-thinking readers lol i'm understanding you tho

But I feel like the job of the reviewer is to speak about their opinion in a confident, matter-of-fact way. It’s like in grade school when they teach you in essays never to write the words “I think” or “I believe” because it should be understood and implied that the opinions and ideas expressed in the essay are the opinions of the writer
yeah iI agree with you I’m just saying maybe some of that is getting lost for some people And the way we could retain some of that is by keeping that sort of language in mind at least sometimes. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with all that “i think” s*** basically, I THINK grade schools were wrong to teach that as such a solid thing. The occasional expression of in my opinion or I think to solidify that for whichever reader may need it or for those that may not be aware that reviews are editorials/strictly opinion would be fine imo. I’m just commenting on how I feel the way we talk about music is contributing the way we talk about music lol like maybe creating negative reinforcement. I really do agree with you though

it shouldn’t, I mean I wish everyone would just ignore scores like me and you do, but unfortunately that’s not the case and I do feel like it contributes to a certain kind of way most people talk about music that I wish would just go away, you know? I hate it.
